More on Retaining Walls

David:
Christie Hess and I went to City Council this AM. They are re-writing the code on retaining walls. Everyone should know that retaining wall codes are being re-written. Although this problem came to light in OSH, it affects everyone in SH and beyond. Please let them know not to remove retaining walls until we see what the new ordinances are. City Council on Oct 19th will be presented with the proposed new ordinances.

THERE DEFINETLY NEEDS TO BE A HEIGHT LIMITATION ON THE RETAINING WALLS.
IF IT IS NOT 1-2 FEET THEN I AM BUILDING A 10 FOOTER AND THEN I WILL SUE IF THE CITY MAKES ME TAKE IT DOWN FOR DISCRIMINATION.

Well anon 11:10 that is quite a statement. I would like to see you raise the height of your property the required 10' it would take to merit a 10' RETAINING WALL. Obviously you do not understand the difference between a retaining wall and a fence!

That precise question (how do you tell a retaining wall from a fence) ws brought up at city council. The answer is: If the wall/fence is no higher than the lawn/yard then it is a retaining wall. We have one somewhere in Tampa that is about 7 or 8' high. The city found it and brought the picture to city council.
