Recommendations: Screens and Roofs

Any recommendations?

"Our new (old) bungalow in . . . . came without screens; a neighbor says the rehabbers threw them away and they told me, "you don't want screens anyway." (Huh?)

We'd like to rehab the windows (too many layers of paint and some lack chains) and get screens, so we can enjoy the cooler weather when it comes. The screen hangers are still mounted over the windows. Recommendations for screen makers would be greatly appreciated."

And

"I was wondering if you knew a reputable roofing company here in Tampa . You seem to be in the know about home repair contractors that are trustworthy. (xxxx) and I have a leak in our roof that has been looked at by two roofing guys and the only thing they say is that they can’t figure out where the leak is and they can try to patch it but not guarantee it. We’re looking for someone with plenty of experience that can diagnose the problem and fix it right. Any ideas?"

I would try Home Depot. They came out to give us an estimate on reroofing and they were very honest. The gentleman actually told us we don't need a new roof yet. We had other people come out and they said it's in good shape however, this is how much cost to replace it.

Try servicemagic.com for recommendations.

home depot subs their work out so the guy the previous poster got may not be the same guy that comes back. Overall I have heard many bad things about the subs that Home Depot uses.

You can have screens made by Chuck Morrison 238-5789. He does a good job but the cost of the hooks is outrageous.

Good luck. The better contractors are usually too busy or too expensive for most people. Roofing contractors seem to be the worst. Try looking for 'nail pops' your self. You may have a situation where a nail went between two pieces of plywood that were not fitted together correctly.

If you want screens this season, consider making them yourself, they are really that hard to make.

Not that hard to make if you have some skills and tools.

Gold Seal Roofing & Construction or Tim Hutchinson Roofing - I've used both for work around my house. Had no problems with either.

I give Gold Seal Roofing a thumbs up.

Tampa Roofing did our roof a few months back and we have used them before. They always do good work.
