Belt Tightening & What It Really Means!

For those of you who complain about the city and the way it spends it’s money...the money you give and other monies which are part of the budget, I would like to suggest that you take the time to sit and watch the budget review of the proposed cuts in this budget. It is 5:41 pm and it is going on right now in council. Thanks to our blogger host, Scott, I am at work but watching in on CTTV. I am learning a lot! If it is important to you to really understand who pays for the pot holes and the increased salaries, or what monies can and can’t be cut, and what it all will mean to us, it will all be replayed Sunday morning at 9:00 am. It will be on tv, via cable and also on computer at the link above.
If you want to watch on the link, scroll down and look for and click on the CTTV Webcast logo.

Cuts to the non-profits (Zoo, Museums, Performing Arts, etc.) was restored. All the hand-wringing about the pain of 3.35 million in cuts. The adminstration discovers after the millage roll back that they had over budgeted 1.2 million for police and fire pensions. That is 35% of the reduced revenue. The administration offering up positions that don't exist and which they don't know would be needed before the end of FY07.

let's hear it for those who want to give Pam as much money as she wants...there is no fat, lard or, pork in her budget.

It is ashame that I was one of about 5 citizen not on the city payroll to speak tonight!

IMPEACH IORIO!

DICK MAY HAVE BEEN A "GOOD OLE BOY" BUT AT LEAST YOU KNEW WHAT HE WAS UP TO.

PAM IS ONE THAT WILL LOOK YOU IN THE FACE SMILE, THEN SCREW YOU.

I think it is good that you went, for sure, but I believe most of us have no idea how the budget works and would therefore have no valuable input. I was even a little surprised at council. The process seems flawed to say the least. Nothing like making this kind of major decision, on the fly!

The Tampa budget has grown considerably faster than personal income, inflation, population, etc.

This is nothing more than your elected officials trying to "punish" you for wanting to want to keep more of your hard earned money.

Belt tightening? Get a grip.

To annon 7:55 and others

Maybe we need to take civic activism a step further next year and actually help neighbors understand the budget a bit better so they can feel comfortable asking for accountability.

I think for many people they would be absolutely floored by the number of salary lines above 80k for a city of a little more than 300,000.

It also may help us level the playing field with South Tampa it getting the needs of Central Tampa addressed instead of coming up short on City priorities.

It is difficult to watch them spend and spend without worrying where the money comes from. The city leaders build a park attitude has got to stop. As new developments are popping up daily, houses are being built closer and closer together. Why are the developers not required to build a park as part of the development. How is it that we are now paying to build New Tampa a new Park?

If I want something and I do not have the money or the credit, I do without. Why can't these clowns learn the same lesson. No money equals no spending!

I agree with Rick, it is time we take back our city. Before another park or memorial is built, I want better roads, curbs, sidewalks, safe existing parks, etc. It is almost like these leaders have ADD, they get bored with what we have so they go and busy themselves with something else.

Director of Creative Industries...
Tampa Film Commissioner...

Shouldn't these jobs be folded into one another?

That would save $100,000 right there.

What's Next? Tampa Executive Director of Performance Dance?
