I am bringing in about 5000 more books... will be revamping the childrens section. will have lots of new books for used prices. i am now getting advanced reading copies... so you can buy before the books are published.
Handmade soy candles and soaps are now available at the bookstore. soon to come: greeting cards, gift bags, and book marks all hand crafted by a "local".
Soap:
Soapmaking is a fairly simple but time consuming process but to make quality soap that is gentle, cleans well and has nice fragrance excellent products must be used. Those products include pure organic and specialty oils, organic additives and the highest quality fragrances and essential oils. If you use inferior products your soap will not have a lasting scent.
Our bars are all handcut, no two batches will ever be exactly the same, each bar is hand trimmed to remove rough edges and it is then hand sealed and packaged.
Why Burn Soy?
~Soy Candle Wax is biodegradable so there is easy soap and water cleanup - even on spills~Soy Candles are clean burning with little to no soot. They use pure cotton wicks with no metal.~Soy Candles are made from American Grown Soybeans~Soy Candle wax is a renewable resource - not petroleum based like paraffin which is a by product of oil refining.~Soy Candles promote growth for the American Farmer~Soy Candles have a beautiful glow and great scent throw. Since they burn at about 98 degrees they do not burn off their fragrance. The scent will be the same the first burn as it is the last.
~ A soy candle burns about 45% longer than paraffin
~ The frosting that you sometimes see in a soy jar candle (the white flakes) just shows that you are using a pure vegetable candle with no paraffin.
~ Our candles are 100% guaranteed. If for any reason someone returns one they get to pick another, no questions asked. Just make sure they always burn it until the wax is melted all the way across the surface.

It may be a cliche about gay men and candles... but... um... yippee! We'll have to stop in and check out the wares. (Hopefully there are scents that aren't too flowery?)
One of my favorite stores in Hillcrest, San Diego is a gothic-styled candle shop. We enjoy burning candles during Fall and Winter.
What are the hours of the store? I need some large white candles? Has anyone been in the candles as art store?
Yes. Before I opened the door I could smell the relaxing scents of candles and incense, I felt comfortable and at home. The sounds of water features had tranquil effect that I hadn't felt in a long time. They have a club chair sitting next to a large water fountain in one corner with a couple of books on the end table. The book that caught my eye was "Meditations from Conversations With God". I have that book and love it. I wanted to ease myself down in the chair, close my eyes and just drift to the sanctuary of my thought while the sounds of the water trickling from one level to the next reminded me of waterfalls in April. Sorry, I got carried away. Needless to say I like the place, good product and prices. It's worth a visit. Way to go guys - good shop.
Thank you for the nice comment about Candles As Art. Yes, we do have a club chair and meditation books for you to sit and relax next to one of the fountains. We are located on Florida Avenue just north of Bo's Ice Cream. All of our candles are made in the store by the artist. You have your choice from different waxes, scents, color,and shape. You build your own candle and it can be as unique as you. All of the candles are one of a kind. Yes, we can make large white pillars. We carry other gift items as well. As a long time resident of Seminole Heights, I am happy to see some new diversified stores opening up in Seminole Heights. I was out today to do some holiday shopping and decided to stop in to see this new store Candles as Art and see what they were about. I ended up spending two hours there and finished all of my holiday shopping. I found some unique holiday gifts, so I know I will not be giving anything that someone else bought. On a side note, I would like to mention, being a gay person in the area, I am always on the look out for gay friendly business, I have found one in Candles As Art, the gentlemen that run the store were polite and helpful. If you have not had a chance to stop into this quaint store on Florida, do, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. We need these kind of stores in the area for Seminole Heights to grow. This is way off topic, but what does someone mean by "for Sem Hts to grow?" Most of seminole heights is built out and without tearing down structures we have what we have. Do people feel that there are alot of vacant homes and we need to repopulate the abandoned neighborhood? Or is it more of a question of quality of life issues? Just curious..
I think they mean qualitative growth rather than quantitative. As in book stores rather than pawn shops.
Face facts- pawn shops make money bookstores abd candle shops don't.

Go ask your cool little book seller about all the money they are making. And ask them how long the will be able to stay open.

The bookstore is right next to a big, busy church and a large elementary school. Both of these are great niche markets.
