Old Rumor. New Construction.

Someone recently chose to free me of owning a digital camera, so I'll have to paint a visual of this via text.

The lot(s) have been cleared out and there are new construction permit signs up on a strip of land that sits behind (to the west) of Truly Nolen Pest Control on N. Florida Ave. The sizeable piece of property is bordered to the north by Violet St. and the south by Louisiana Ave.

If my rumor mill is right, I think they are to build mixed use mid-income condos there, with shops on the bottom floor.

Has anyone else seen or heard about this project lately?

No, but what is going on at the former flooring place just 1-2 blocks north, on the east side of FLorida Av??

that's the new location of SHIP - senior home improvement - division of The Springs of Tp Bay. It is to assist low income elderly in maintaining their home.

What's the deal with the chainlink? I don't remember chainlink being there when it was a carpet place. When did the area become so bad that all businesses think it's necessary to have a 6 foot chainlink fence? They are ugly and send the wrong message.

Agrred on the chain link. Ridiculous. All that parking wasted, too ... It's a shame. Good cause, bad neighbor.

I believe that it was explained somewhere on here that SHIP was having problems with illegal dumping on the property and that the fencing was a temporary solution. Might be a bit of overkill, but one has to do what one has to do. Perhaps a better use for the extra land will come along soon and the fence will no longer be needed.

For me, the 'bad neighbor' court is still out. There is still a reputation in the area of crime and poverty that is mostly untrue. The lot was having issues with illegal dumping. Companies usually have plans for how they'll build out a space to their needs prior to actually moving in. So the chain link may have been an overeaction. We may see some changes there after OSH and SSH finish negotiations with them.

Well if the problem is illegal dumping then that's something we need to address with the city or whomever is responsible for enforcing the law against it. Illegal dumping is problem throughout but I do not believe that putting a fence up is the solution to the problem. Create a watch group, have a better police presence, post signs and be vigilant yourself, block off the driveway only, increase the lighting. The alley behind my house is a popular place for dumping, my solution is to increase the lighting. There is always a better solution than putting up another fence.

not to mention all the "NO TRESPASSING" signs by their front door! Howdy new neighborhood we're here but don't bother us.

If they are following the letter of the law, there's really nothing that you can do or say to force them to change.
If they aren't following the spirit of the neighborhood, anonymous bitching is a sure way to gain their cooperation. In fact, it might just get them to post monkeys at the corners of the fence to fling poo at passers by. Now there's a "Howdy Neighbor!" for ya.

Alright there Flyer. I'll own up to it. I've hoped to be a play nice kinda guy, but sometimes readers flinging poo needs to be met with poo flinging monkeys. I guess that I'm not going to be able to resist my fly in the ointment nature. However, I really will try to provide positive input where I can.
