TPD Citizen of the Year

Kathy Steele's article in Tribune about Sherry Genovar-Simons being selected Citizen of the Year.

""She is absolutely committed to improving the neighborhood, not only her neighborhood but other neighborhoods," Guidara said. "She's tenacious, a protector of the people and always working very hard for the community.""
. . .

In the past five years, Genovar-Simons has volunteered with the antiprostitution Vehicle Crime Patrol, the committee working to rehabilitate Giddens Park and the annual Dog Day in the Park fundraiser, which she founded. Most recently, she has taken on code enforcement issues, in one instance helping oppose a New Orleans Avenue rental house used by sex offenders. . . "

"She said the award is "overwhelmingly nice," but the honor also goes to the association.

"I'm not the only one," she said. "We're people who talk to one another. The association fights really hard for issues in the neighborhood.""
