Neighborhood Drop-off site

I have trying to find info on the proposed Waste Transfer station on the web to no success. That is because it is called the "neighborhood drop-off" site.

Here is what I found in the 2006 Tampa budget files

"Solid Waste: A neighborhood drop-off site facility
is proposed for East Tampa. The project cost
estimate is $227,649. This facility will accept
bulky trash, yard waste, appliances and other
items that are not collected along with the regular
bi-weekly residential garbage. The facility will be
secured and staffed during operating hours to
prevent potential illegal dumping activities in the
area and along the surrounding roadside and
community."

In my research, I found concerns people were making about all of the illegal dumping in alleys and empty lots. This seems to be a way of dealing with it. Create a close site to the problem so people can get there trash there. However.....

This was addressed last night at the Assocation meeting. Were I have to say at least 75 people attended, many who were there to voice their blessing and concerns. More concerns and objections than blessings though.

The outcome from the presentation is:
At this point the city is not moving forward with their plans to develop this site in a drop off location. The Solid
Waste Director challenged the neighborhood to find a piece of property that is a min of 4 acres in size within the city limits in East Tampa. He is open to the community's feed back and solutions. The reason this location was selected is because this is only piece of property in East Tampa that the city owns thast is large enough to accomodate it. He told us he is planning on spending 500,000 to a million on this project.

Although he tried to use illegal dumping at a platform for the need it didn't stick. The facts he presented were. There are currently 52 illegal dump site in Tampa and the majority of them are located in East Tampa. From his map it appeared that the majority of these sites were south east of this site and they are close to McKay Bay. But the problem doesn't seem to be fueled by distance or location. The city said they find that most people who dump illegally are light haulers therefore commerical inteties. This proposed site will not allow these people to drop off here. You have to be a property owner to use this proposed facility. I think most illegal dumpers are renters and lazy small business people. Both of which this facility allow to them use.

Just to let you know though the Solid Waste Director did say if they plan on moving forward with this plan he will come back to our neighborhood again and let us know first that they are moving forward. The site doesn't require any special approvals or voting so unfortunately they can move forward at any moment.

If you are interested in helping locate a site please email David McCary at david.mccary@tampagov.net

I believe it's a great concept but it's not the right location.

The slide at the meeting showing illegal dumping sites. Almost all of the sites are closer to the McKay Bay transfer station than they are to the proposed/planned site. How will it impact illegal dumping by driving further than it would be to go to McKay?

Fly by night haulers, commercial haulers can't use the new site yet the speaker from solid waste said the are most of the problem? How will this site help?

Lazy renters or homeowners wont't go to the existing site even when it is less than a mile from from their illegal dumping ground. Why would this change their behavior?

Spending up to a million dollars for this facility is a lot. Considering development cost, upkeep, wages and benefits, is this really a better use of our tax dollars than providing once a week or as needed curbside pick-up of large household items?

I created a quick blog to hopefully target Seminole Crest residents. I have posted this situation on my blog to maybe concentrate all the comments. I was unsatisfied wih the old post because it was focused on old battles

What happened to the original Story with all the numerous posts from everyone? I can't find it anymore and only this Blog now.

I pulled my post as I tired of the personal insults from anonymous posters. It is cheap and cowardly to take pot shots when you don't identify yourself.

Tamparanch created the new Seminole Crest blog. It has information about the city's proposed facilty and meeting summary. I hope that OSHNA will keep updates on their website as well.

if you can't stand the heat get out of the blog. If you throw mud then expect mud to be thrown back - anon or not.

There were actually relevant comments about the concerns of the neighborhood - it wasn't all about slamming poor little Rick. Believe it or not people don't gather in groups with flaming torches talking about Rick, Rick, Rick - there are other more relevant issues in the neighborhood.

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE WITH BLOG NAMES THINKING THEY AREN'T IN SOME SICK WAY ALSO ANON! JUST CAUSE YOU HAVE A FICTICIOUS NAME DOES NOT MEAN THAT IS YOUR IDENTITY...FOR EXAMPLE, WHO IS FLYERANON? COULDBESHERRY, MIGHTBESHERRY, THEOTHERSHERRY, SHREK, SHREKSWIFE, RUNNINMAN, ETC? THAT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN ANON! IF YOU DON'T PUT YOUR TRUE FIRST AND LAST NAME, YOU ARE WRITING UNDER AN ASSUMED OR PEN NAME....PERIOD!!! SO STOP ACTING LIKE YOU ARE SO MUCH BIGGER BECAUSE YOU HAVE YOU FAKE NAME. YOU ARE STILL HIDING BEHIND ANON!

Farah, you must be new to the blog. FlyerAnon has been outed in the blog, Couldbesherry, also, is identifiable, as is Yesterdazed, and ranbar and a host of others with something other than a legal name as their login. I won't out any of them, but with a little bit of effort you could figure out who any of them are. They most certainly aren't hiding because they are some of the most active and visible folks in our neighborhood (excepting FlyerAnon). Because they choose to use a creative pseudonym vice a first and last name doesn't mean they are anonymous.

Farah Fawcett, my name is Renee Stewart, you'll see me on here as "Seminole". I have nothing to hide. Who are you?

Calling OSHNA racist and classist is okay. Being called a jerk for doing it is cheap and cowardly. Yeah... that's the reason you pulled the post... not.

Sherry King is Yesterdazed.
Randy Baron (running for city council) is ranbar
Sherry from SE Seminole Heights(citizen of the year) is CouldBeSherry

Pseudonymns are not always anonymous. Many of these posters are open about their identities.

Wow... when I asked the above yesterday I sure didn't expect all of the following? Sorry Rick, guess the bashing continues towards you. It was just an honest question because I'm kind of new to this Blogging thing and thought it was me missing something. I agree with one of the poster's that there actually was relevant comments about the concerns of the neighborhood. Thanks for the info on the Seminole Crest Blog though. I hope those that were posting comments continue over there because it was interesting.

Ranbar is also the president of OSHNA and Sherry is also the president of SESH

OMG. Do all these anonymous posters have some fear of Rick or is he that important to be the focus of so much bashing. I don't remember anyone, flyeranon included, being the focus of so many attacks. He must have some power or influence to provoke such strong emotional responses. Have you considered therapy for this phobia?

Anon; 5:47 1/26... I agree. It does seem that Rick hits some kind of a nerve with some of these folks. Quite vicious at times, Ouch ! It appears there is bad-blood between them from the past and continues still. Oh well, let the bashing continue I suppose.
