Vivant House

There is a new antique store in the area called Vivant House. Owned by a Seminole Heights resident, it is just outside Seminole Heights, on Hillsborough just west of Lee Place.

Wow, a mulch parking lot. I wonder how long this will look decent. Where are the code inspectors. I thought by law, and ADA code, there must be hard surface parking!

OK - you're being 'funny', right? A brand new, nice business in our part of town and all you can think to do is make a snide comment about the parking lot?! Please!

i agree with the second posting. picky, picky, picky!

this place is great - really nice furniture and very reasonable prices. the house that it is in is beautiful inside and out, and this is exactly the sort of business that the 'hood needs!
i bought a record cabinet that i love and would encourage anyone looking for mirrors, furniture, etc. to stop in.

I don't know, I think I would have to side with the first posting. Take a look at history. The beautiful building on Nebraska that rehabbed, put in a gravel parking lot (against code) and within one year looked worse with the weeds thru the gravel. While it may seem picky, at what point to you stand up and say enough is enough, no more make shift business, etc. We pay taxes so that asses like Kurtis Lane has a job, yet he still has not found the How TO manual to figure out what to do.

Hey Mike, that's Curtis, not Kurtis. He is not cool enough for a "new" spelling of his name.

Some of you people will bitch and nitpick about anything!

Where exactly is this place? I'd like to drop by.

Sorry folks, you can't have it both ways. Code is code and "we like this business so we'll let it slide - we don't like this business so we're going to report them for the same type of violation" is just a tad hypocritical.

Just a perfect case of be careful what you ask for.

Does anyone remember the Old Dusty Memories antique shop on Nebraska...Looked about like this. Code ran them off. Honestly though, how hard is it to make your business basic minimum code standards. If these business owners bought the house, surely, they have money to pave the parking. If they are renting, the owners should be required to bring it up to code.

The owners put a ton of time and money into rehabbing the building. Maybe they didn't have enough to do the parking lot. Maybe they will do it in the future. So support their business so they can make money and improve in the future.

Even though paving might sound like the right and easy thing to do, there are issues like setback requirements, right of way, and green space issues that no one ever takes into account. The process to just pave a parking lot becomes such a huge issue when you involve the city of Tampa.
--- I think we should just be happy they are there and go support them.

This is a great shop, loads of deals and run by good people. As far as the parking lot -how about you just be happy they have it. Most small businesses in S.H. have little to no parking. Like many others have stated before -just support them and maybe they'll have the means to improve it, while at the same time offering our little piece of Tampa better and more interesting shopping options.

this is a great store- we need to support small, local businesses, especially those that are somewhat artsy- there are so few left in the area.

I popped in a few days ago- owner super nice and helpful, cool items, great prices-

Let's support him and others like him!

Peace out!

I agree. If more people would support local businesses, maybe we would see more businesses consider Seminole Heights. The other blog has been pushing the concept of keeping dollars here in the neighborhood. They are spotlight SH companies. Not sure if it will be a daily or weekly thing but pretty interesting. Actually got me to go into Sherry's for the first time. That is another cool place.
