OOOOPS!

I am new, as a poster, to this blog but I have long watched, and applauded Scott for not only starting it but making such wonderful contributions to our community by opening up thoughtful and sometimes whimsical dialogs. I have always understood that the "content" and the passion is what is important and have not bothered myself with the small spelling and grammar errors. I know that our host, as do I, has a very time consuming full time job, and that sometimes posts are made on the fly because of their timeliness and importance.

It would be much better if no errors were made, however, I rather doubt most people who read this blog, feel we are less than reasonably intelligent. Hopefully, no one will waste time judging the content as unworthy just because of a typo or omitted punctuation.

All this goes to say, that for my part, I apologize right here and now, this one time only, for whatever spelling and grammar issues I might not catch before I post. And I hope you all will go with the flow and forgive me.

Life is too short to take ourselves toooooo seriously!

Sorry CouldBeSherry, but I must agree with Grammar Genie. It's not that there are just occasional errors on this blog, but rather it is ridden with huge spelling and grammatical errors constantly. The acceptance of these types of errors can be interpreted as being indicative that one is willing to overlook mistakes in other endeavors as well. Now, we are all human and we all make mistakes, but we should also show the world that we take ourselves seriously and have a little pride.

Give me a break!!!!! I read content rather than spelling - I for one don't discount the thought if someone leaves out a letter i their post.

I am sure that you are 100% accurate in everything you do and heaven forbid that you make a mistake - I certainly could not take any effort you may make as serious after that. Let's start building your pedestal now so that you do not fall off of your soapbox and break your FOOL neck.

Well opinions are like.............
Anyway we are all entitled to have one. I guess, I view the blog more like a conversation rather than in depth journalistic reporting. Conversations are casual, and interesting, emotional, personal and are rarely entirely grammatically correct. So I stand with what I said. There will be flaws,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I am sorry, but if they are too distracting, here is the link for Webster Online...... http://www.m-w.com/. Might be dry, but think will be correct!

So you are saying that your verbal conversations may "soond like tis?" I am not expecting people to use excellent grammar, but it is nice not to have to read something twice because of simple grammatical errors. It only takes a moment to review your post before hitting the publish button.

Reading the comments this evening. Is it good that the blog is prepared and able to reach such a diverse population as we have in Seminole Heights.

While the idea of perfection is ideal, how are we able to judge what is perfect ? Come on ladies and gentlemen, hopefully we are here as a vehicle to attract information, thoughts and feelings of our audience. With someone who is donating time as a moderator, one would hope that we seek content from all rather than dicker over a comma here and an extra vowel there.

Language just as the weather is always changing. Realize the concept of "adapting", and learn to accept the thought as expressed.

Thank you for putting this out there. Some of us I mean human's, have disorders like dyslexia.

Its a pretty well known disorder and unfortunetly I wasnt dx till I was an adult of 40. Knock my engish and drag down my spelling and lack of skills, you who do this to others are just in my book
"bullies" .
This is a casual board.

Just because this is a "casual" board doesn't and shouldn't mean that we shouldn't try to clean things up. This is a sad reflection on the state of education and pride in America today.

Wow! I am amazed at the seriousness of come of the comments. I don't think this is about formality of prose, journalistic reporting, novel writing, etc. I communicate on a daily basis in the business world and in doing so I find most communications are well punctuated, correctly spelled and grammatically correct. Personal emails, however are filled with abbreviations, and are rarely grammatically correct. I, do not feel like the written word is going astray, I feel it is adapting to the new world. I, for one, am glad we do not all speak in old English!

Using correct spelling and punctuation is NOT Old English you moron. And there is nothing wrong with using poetic license when trying to communicate something that isn't easily explained with traditional language use. That does not mean that we should just forget that we are educated, well-spoken people that can and should express ourselves in a manner that is respected by those who may read what we are saying. All I am saying is that we should pay more attention to our grammar, spelling and punctuation. Haven't you ever heard someone speaking that makes mistakes with their pronunciation and and conjugation of their verbs? Whether it be conciously or subconciously, you for negative or positive opinions about someone based on the way they communicate. Just make a simple attempt to correct it. No one is especting perfection here. Everyone makes mistakes now and then. Stop being so friggin' defensive about this.

Mr. Dyslexic: No-one is talking about illness or disorder here but you. No-one is requesting perfection here either. Why does this blog always seem to bring out the crazies from the cracks of society? Don't be such a "victim".

Good grammar and punctuation are like good manners.... they never go out of style.

I believe Gennie that the reason so many feel defensive is because you initialized this with an attack. Just an observation.

Anonymous said...

It seems Gennie, it is not so much what you said, or that you are even wrong,,,,,,,,,more the manner in which you said it.

Grammar skills you may have, social tact you don't!

Anonymous said...

Please re-read the initial entry with a your mind's voice in a slightly calmer tone and you will realize that it was not an attack at all. That's how defensive everyone is. Please take a chill pill.

I at least comment with a name, and not anonymously as some do, so that they cannot be linked to their previous posts!

Anonymous said...

Hey LuckyTop: Might you be looking for LuckyBottom???

luckytop said...

I never said that. You are reading something in that was not my intention. My reference was to the person who made the rude comment directed to me (from Anonymous). I think it is easy to make rude comments if you remain anonymous, as opposed to using a name that people will continue to recognize when you post. P.S. I am not looking for luckybottom! LOL

Anonymous said...

hey luckytop: why not?

Anonymous said...

Just an aside to the Genie -- in the following sentence (from one of your previous posts), it should read "who" makes mistakes, not "that" makes mistakes...

"Haven't you ever heard someone speaking that makes mistakes with their pronunciation and and conjugation of their verbs?"

I think there may be some irony here...
Thanks.

I don't think anyone is expecting perfect grammar on blogs because they do represent casual conversations. Who cares if you use "that" instead of "who", "who" instead of "whom", type words twice such as "and and" like the comment above, or even use "like" in an informal way such as I did. But... it's the easy fixes that stop the flow of reading that bother me. When wordsrunt ogether and are spaced wrong, ropped letters, or wrong latters used. All some people are asking is to look over your comments and try to "clean" it up before posting. You'll have a better chance of getting your point across if someone can easily comprehend what you are trying to write and not have to second guess you because of wrong litters or missing leter.

LOLOLOL!!

I loved all of this.Thank you!

I am a woman with dyslexia ,I belive all they meant is there are reasons for some errors .
