A Very Good Thing!

At the first Seminole Heights Task Force meeting, the representatives of Seminole Heights brought up the question of the Semi Truck Rest Stop which had been growing and growing at the Tabernacle on Bush, right across from the Dog Track. The statement from the representatives was: This is ugly, and is a common ground for prostitution at night. The question was: Is it legal? The response was: We will go there immediately, look at it and fix it.
I noticed over the weekend that there were only one or two trucks where there had been 15 or more and that they did not stay long.

This morning I took these pictures. It is almost just a parking lot again. The only thing left is one trailer and some garbage. I am hoping this will be gone very soon.

This quick turn around is a good thing, and hopefully a sign of a change.

We went by there around 11:30 Saturday night and there was a police officer there, I assume standing-by awaiting his next call. We were quite impressed as there was only one semi in the parking lot. Legal for parking or not, we all know that what was going on inside those trucks parked there wasn't. Kudos to TPD for their effort so far.

Where is this place? Wasnt it the PAM AMERICA BANK BUILDING at one time?

Just curious.

I think it was the PAN Am Bank. It is at Bird and Nebraska surrounded by a sea of parking lots that could be used for parking for the non-existant riverfront park.

Once again, it is up to the citizens of Tampa to investigate and solve all problems in the neighborhoods. Where is Curtis Lane wth his Systematic Door-to-door approach that he used to promise us. When is this clown going to be canned?

Someone has been going door to door. I recieved a violation in September for having vines growing along my fence which abuts the alley. But why shouldn't the citizens of the city be tasked with solving problems? We live with the problems daily, Code or City Leaders, may not recognize problems or violations as easily as we do due. It's only makes sense for us to bring the problems to the attention of those who can help correc it. Now with that being said there are some items which are definite violations and even the untrained eye should be able to recognize those violations and take the neccessary steps to correct them. For instance, newly erected chainlink fences or parking in a no park zone.

I am very happy to know that they have cleaned up Disney's western-most parking lot here in Tampa. Just so everyone knows, 1303 E. New Orleans, the home of the illegal boarding house for sex offenders has been PASSED by code enforcement as COMPLIED!!! Can you believe this???? Curtis Lame, on the advice of the City Attorney, David Smith, has determined that the 5 remaining, unrealated, individtually paying renters that currently occupy the dwelling there are all living there LEGALLY!!!! This idiot doesn't know his own law!!! They are not family members and they are all paying their rents individually. They even have individual locks on the interior doors. It's time to escalate this.

Yes, this used to be the Pan Am Bank building years ago. It is on the corner of Bird St. and Nebraska Ave. It is now occupied by some freako evangelist group.

I am sending some of the comments to local media. I am also looking into coordinating a rally on the city hall steps to demand the Curtis Lane, Bill and Harold be removed from their positions. First, I have reached out to several organizations for sexually abused and exploited children and women so that we may have more clout and louder voice. I feel we must bring awareness to how Florida (or Tampa) law allows so many convicted offenders to live at one address. By co-sponsoring a ralley, we will be guaranteed the much needed media attention and publicity to make sure this happens. I have been keeping a daily/weekly web log of everytime someone was contacted regarding this house. I have the previous tapes. I have sent letters to the Mayor's office. I had spoken with someone that had met with the Mayors assistant. At this point, I think we should call for heads to roll. I am offended that the city is allowing this to happen in our own neighborhood.

Im a babyboomer with some abuse issues in my background.

My predator was a piller of the community. He eventually was founded and back then, He was put into jail .

Today ...evil is protected by the law.

IF you need any input from someone with these issues in their lives and how it impacts you as an adult as it does the child .

Response to this post.

I will be glad to attempt to impact someone in position to change this environment for the safety of this area

That is what is wrong.. Those who live daily with this abuse crap ...dont have their win or say.

Change it. Make this area alot safer and a great example of the powers that be in a community

and soon!

I am disgusted and mortified that Mayor Pam Iorio has sat back and not done a damn thing about this. I was abused as a child for 10 years and find this kind of crime despicable. When I tried to get help, the person I confided in went to the accuser, who in turn abused more. I am now a huge activist against child sexual abuse and find the lackadaisical attitude by our administration unacceptable. I agree with Jaded that Mark Lundsford would be a great person to contact. The media love him. I guarantee you that if you call Pam on the carpet for her non decisive role, she will eventually step up and take action. Once the election becomes closer, you can bet she will be more active. In this situation, the media is your best avenue to take. Best of luck!

Remember, those that harbour or protect abusers are abusers them selves. While they may not physically abuse, they are just as bad!

If there are 5 people, there is NO violation. What is so hard to understand?

I've read, and read, and read your all's bitching and not one of you has proposed a solution. Do you want the death penalty for sex offenders (this costs more than life in prison), do you want life in prison for sex offenders (on your tax dollar), or what do you want? They have to live somewhere and this house is in complaince.

I think what you really want is homeless sex offenders. They should not have a home, right? That's a safe thought . . . having them rome around without an address. Quit bitching and propose some solutions. Right now, this house is in compliance.

The he!! its not Curtis Lane.
You people have no idea how to do your jobs.
The house is not in compliance because the offenders are not family members.
How about we picket in front of your own house in Tampa Palms until you get off your a$$ and do something.
Then we go to Pamela Iorio's house and picket there too.
What a thought..
I am so proud of myself for coming up with that.
That is the solution.
You all never wanted to do anything with that house.
You just got the attorney to go along with it.
I guess we all have to hold people accountable.
Since there is no one left but the mayor..
ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP!!!
VOTE NO FOR IORIO!!

OK, I have read enough about "picketing" Tshirts, boycotting, protesting and so on...Someone finally do something and organize it! I will be there. I to have had enough.

The code leaders are so lazy and stupid they don't even know thier own laws. Look anywhere on the internet at how many times this home has been advertised as a boarding house. Each individual is paying rent, IT IS A FREAKING BOARDING HOUSE! There is no way it is legal. Let's picket on Cleveland street infront of Mayor Iorio's house. I bet one day and tons of media will get her to grow a pair and make changes.

We can also raise money to take out a full page ad or billboard. Put up a message "from the citizens" it would get so much publicity and with as many PR people in this neighborhood, someone could probably get it picked up by AP or national media. Especially, as the earlier post said, get Mark Lunsford or someone like him to get on board with you. mayor pam would be screwed. Mark my word, she is holding Bill and Curtis til closer to election. This will be her trump card to get re-elected.

count me in.

I live three blocks away from a sexual offender off Hanna Ave,
Makes me wary to walk down to store on corner.

I read what the poster said .What should we do? I mean really? Sure they have to reside some place .Paying to keep them in a prison is not good, they cost us once they are out too..so what DO we do?
I wonder ? Shouldnt they be monitered and kept in an institution like they did with the mentally ill.Only the "residences" become the criminals and forced to earn their keep in said institution. They should be forced to farm it, maintain it the residence without ANY monies from a state or a government of any kind
I also belive the place should have its own police and guard.
The offenders and predators should be forced to earn monies by producing a marketable or ongoing marketable product so they the offenders and predators have to pay for their law officers to guard them.
Yes they should be forced to pay in all aspects
since we all do.

I for one admit to the truth about how I would feel and what I would more than likey do to someone who molested my child. I wouldnt think twice about HARMING THEM back
for you see LAW PROTECTS THE BAD.
