"Sunday In The Arts" - Las Damas De Artes

Susan was invited to show two of her pieces at this Sunday at the show put on by the Las Damas De Artes (Women of the Arts) called appropriately, "Sunday In The Arts".

Southeast Seminole Heights resident, Pat Benjamin is the president of Las Damas. She was interviewed by St. Pete Times Ernest Hooper in today's column.

"Pat Benjamin says the local arts scene has grown immensely,
especially when it comes to women artists.

"Oh my, it's incredibly improved over the years," said Benjamin, president of Las Damas de Arte. "Do you realize how many galleries have opened in the past 10 years."

From the Las Damas website:

"The opening night for our yearly exhibition and fundraiser, Sunday in the Arts, will be held March 12, 2006 at the University of Tampa's new Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, from 5:30 until 8:00 in the evening. Sunday in the Arts is an art exhibit and sale featuring over 50 acclaimed women artists whose work includes paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography, sculpture, fiber, jewelry and mixed media. Original art by area artists surrounded by butlered gourmet delictables and wine tasting, silent auction, music by the University of South Florida Jazz Ensemble - LaRue Nickelson Trio, and Tampa Bay's most avid art patrons. Las Damas de Arte's annual goal is to raise money in order to provide funds for art scholarships in our local colleges and high schools as well as grant money for local non-profit organizations with art needs. Many of the "grass-roots" projects that we fund offer developmental art supplies to children who would otherwise not have access to such materials. We raise most of this money through sponsorship and ticket sales. The support of generous people and businesses is critical to the success of Sunday in the Arts."
According to Ernest Hooper:
The contest entries will be judged by Ken Rollins, interim director of the Tampa Museum of Art, and Margaret Miller, executive director of Graphicstudio at the University of South Florida.
