The Fluff Constructivists- Frontiers at Dawn

Next weekend the Fluff Constructivists will open Frontiers at Dawn, on March 18-April 9, 2006. OPENING RECEPTION AND PERFORMANCE : SATURDAY, MARCH 25 FROM 7-IIPM
Since 2000, the Fluff Constructivists have existed as a collective and collaborative art group, with core members including Ethan Kruszka and Mikel Bisbee-Durlam. Their work varies in medium and content, but a primary conceptual function of the group is to offer gestures of goodwill, as well as the ongoing exploration of what it means to experience a “new” moment. With 2004’s project, “Stages in Short Gasps”, the Fluff Constructivists developed a strong interest in bloodletting and various physical and externalized signs of one’s own mortality. At first mistaken for gore, this interest led to the group questioning otherwise “juvenile” avenues again, such as horror, perversity, and art processes based on less-controlled routes such as intuition and chance.
In addition to visual arts, the Fluff Constructivists also offshoot in musical and sound projects such as the Popcassettes, the late Video LILI, and Apollo Theatre. If interested, please contact the artists for a catalogue of recordings.
Both hailing originally from the Midwest and graduates of the University of Northern Iowa, Ethan and Mikel have worked together on a multitude of projects since 1999. Ethan went on to study at Florida State University in Tallahassee and receive his MFA from the University of Florida in 2004. Along with several exhibits to his name, he founded the Thornton Biennial, a contemporary art festival in Thornton, Iowa. Mikel went on to study at Alfred University in Alfred, NY, and is scheduled to receive his MFA this fall from the University of South Florida. Along with the Fluff Constructivists, Mikel is also a member of the bands [glitter]Chariot and the Telepathics of Lost Camp.
