Visiting Hotel
This question was put out on the email list:
"Can anyone recommend a nice hotel not too far from the hood? Friends are coming down in August and I don’t think they’d enjoy staying at any of the hotels on Hillsborough."
I think a lot of us would want that answer. The interstate brings a lot of places closer.
Probably any of the places downtown would not be bad, especially the place across from the main library. Residence Inn Tampa Downtown 101 E Tyler St (813) 221-4224. A friend stayed there.
For something funky you could try Gram's Place Bnb Guesthouses & Hostel (813) 221-0596 3109 N Ola Ave. I toured it on the Tampa Heights Home Tour.
This place looks interesting Don Vicente De Ybor (813) 241-4545 1915 N Avenida Republica De Cuba.

Gram's Place is very cool little bed and breakfast and for the right person would be a great stay and oh so close. Don Vincente De Ybor is very nice, but I thought a little pricey. Also, a little farther away, but the Hard Rock Hotel is soooooo nice and a fun place to stay.
The Hilton Garden Inn on 9th Street in Ybor is very nice and reasonably priced. A number of our friends and family members stayed there while in town for our wedding.
marriott waterside is the nicest hotel that is close by
Seeing stuff like this makes me consider the viability of opening a B&B in the neighborhood.
Plenty of affordable motels along Florida and Nebraska.
In fact, I think many have an hourly rate.
Did anyone else find this question humorously ironic?
I think the question including "nice" as a requirement quite obviously disqualified the fleabags in the neighborhood. The question also didn't say anything about it being affordable so I would have to say I found no irony at all, but I am surprised it took someone this long to take the easy joke, I tend to leave those alone, sorta like shooting fish in a barrel. In response to the query posed, Waterside Marriott is quite nice, but parking can be pricey or a pain, Courtyard and Residence Inn, same story, not sure if any of the downtown places have free parking. The Courtyard at Dale Mabry and Cypress(just off I-275) is decent and I have found pretty good deals there, I put my Dad up there last month and it was only about 10 minutes away during everything but rush hour. The business oriented hotels near USF are also decent, but the chains closer to Busch Gardens are hit-or-miss. The Hilton Garden inn at Ybor looks pretty nice, but never had an experience of staying there.
Hard Rock Hotel!
My family always stays at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ybor City when visiting. The prices are reasonable, gated parking, pool, and breakfast. great place.
a B&B in the neighbor would be great but currently city code prohibits a B&B in a residential neighborhood - you may want to have your neighborhood assoc have city council revisit that issue!
