McDonald's on Florida Avenue

From an 9/1/05 article by Kathy Steele in the Tribune.

" McDonald’s Corp. has an idea to demolish an old McDonald’s restaurant on Florida Avenue and plant a new one with two square towers on the roof. It’s a gesture to Sulphur Springs and the grand old water tower across the way."

The restaurant will be replaced with the new one, with the somewhat familiar towers. A new drive-through window and a bypass lane for the drive-through will be added. A disabled-access ramp will remain.Shah said, "We are saving all the trees. All the trees are there."The council unanimously approved the rezoning."In a nutshell, we’re making the property better," Dingfelder said."

"Bottom line: Sulphur Springs is a historical treasure but not a historical district."

City Council Documents on the hearing.

Finally this was posted on our email list today by Sherri Simonms

"I wonder if this is the kind of new Mickey D's we will be getting on Florida?"

I was wondering why they tore it down and couldn't have imagined it was so they could make it better. Now if only the other surrounding business around there would clean up their act. Yes Kash and Karry I'm talking about you!
