Seminole Heights (Blog) Returns to the Tribune

Well, my foray into St. Pete Timesland will end July 2. My subscription with the Times, that I bought in a fit of pique after the whole Central Tampa episode, ends then.

Why are we returning?

Kathy Steele and all of her local reporting, and other Trib local news. I like to know what is going on in my neighborhood and city. The Trib gives me more of that.

The obituaries, classified ad and comics.

The obituaries and classified ads are Tampa based. In the Times it is all about the Pinellas people.

We really prefer the comics in the Tribune to the comics in the Times.

The Times has a lot going for it. I like it's longer stories and it's Perspective section. Susan Thurston is great. It the Times had put more resources into the City Times Section, giving us more local reporting, and making it twice a week section, I might have stayed.

I will get my flavor of the Times as I read my TBT every day (delivered to my building!)

Please don't tit;e this Seminole Heoghts returns to the Trib. I never will. Their conservative politics and support of GWB in the 2000 elections has made me a life long non-subscriber.

I second what anon says. The Trib has never aligned with my political views so, better neighborhood coverage or not, they'll never get my money. The Times has much better writing as well.

i had subscribed to the Times, since I dislike the Trib for the same reasons mentioned above, but the delivery was so infrequent, and my calls not responded to , that I cancelled. However I still read the Times and will continue to. The Trib is owned by Media General (Ch. 8, maybe others?). I dislike their non-independence and frequent, obvious ch. 8 tie-ins.

DOn't get me started on the TBT vultures who lurk around my campus, constantly trying to foist their digest on passerby.

But hey, you read what you want. I'm not knocking anyone who reads the Trib, just adding my 2 cents.

though no trib fan, i wish people had more intelligent reasons for knocking it than disagreeing with their editorials. do you only read things you agree with? how would you ever learn both sides of any issue?

aside from that, other reasons such as tampa-centric advertising, obits, more frequent local stories and, i suppose, different comics are legit reasons to read one paper over another. since both are free online, why not read that way and save a few trees?

For political stuff and commentary I will read the Times online.

However, reading news online does not beat the experience of sitting on my recliner in the morning, reading the paper. Just as I read book in paper form and not online.

Independence and ethics in journalism... a pretty good reason to choose the Times over the Trib, if you ask me:
