Would Phil Alessi Rent to the Church of the Avenger
More commentary on Scientology:
In the recent St. Pete Times article, Phil Alessi says that "his decision to rent the building to James does not reflect on his views of Scientology.
"I'm not for or against it,'' Alessi said. "It's just a business decision.''
I'm curious. Does that means he would rent to anyone? No matter what they believed? Would he have rented to Charles Eidson and the anti-semitic Church of the Avenger?
I wonder how he would feel about renting to rent to this oganization if Seminole Heights residents protested that decision in front of Alessi's Bakery? With news media coverage?
The unfunny truth

Would he rent to the Westboro Baptist Church?
who cares? like he said, its a business decision
Like running collections for the Da Mob, or being a hitman, nothing personal, it's just business.
Like selling illegal drugs. Nothing personal. Just business. Like selling Zyklon-B gas to Nazi Germany. Nothing personal. Just business. Like selling gas centrifuges to Irag. Nothing personal. Just business.
Once Mr. Alessi sees how much money he is going to have to spend to make the required zoning upgrades to the property,ie, parking etc., the "Scient" ologists will be out of there. Furthermore, I am much less concerned about them than I am about the way Mr. Alessi as been using the property as some sort of storage for his lemonade stands and other unsightly vehicles. I hope that Code Enforcement has been out there to take care of that.

wow, comparing all those activities to renting a building to a church? yeah, ok, I see what your point.
Here is a question for all of those that was raving about ybor pizza. What is the difference in the way Phil's place looks versus ybor pizza. I would much rather have my childern play in the lot behind Alessi's vs behind ybor pizza. For those that say it is behind the business, go in the parking lot and take a look at all of the crap back there. The uhaul has been there for at least 5 years, the trailers, the broken down cars, the commercial equipment, the RV and more. It is not a city dump (even though) it looks like it, but the city has yet to do anything to clean it up. While I don't support Phil's decision, I do say if we are going to pick on one, lets be consistent with every commercial property. The easiest way to look at it is, if it is against the law (according to code) then you can't do it. Simple enough!
not a church, dis is scientology were talkin about..dat's organized crime almost as much as dat stuff dat comes outa da Vatican
Maybe they made him an offer he couldn't refuse
to Vinni and the doGfather:
Thanks. Now I'm wiping my screen because i spit my drink all over it! That was some funny shit!
"It's just a business decision.''
One can and should still have *ethics* in how one conducts business.
You're all kidding, right? While I harbor no great love for the Scientologists, they are clean, quiet, and legal. They'll also mind their own business. All this handwringing is ludicrous. Perhaps you would all prefer another run-down used car lot or perhaps a liquor store. I know . . . MallWart!
Wow clean mom, way to insert your personal agenda into a completely unrelated topic. Stylish - effortless - graceful. My hat is off to you.
" I would much rather have my childern play in the lot behind Alessi's vs behind ybor pizza. "
Nice. I'd rather have my kids not play in a buisness lot at all but okay...
Anonymous : 6/20/2006 5:20 PM Are you kidding? Legal and mind their own business, those are about as far from the truth as it can get. Have you never been hassled to take one of their personality profiles? Not exactly minding their own business, several members convicted, not exactly legal. Anti-scientology for a residential street with inadequate parking doesn't quite equate to wanting a car lot, liquor store, or Wal-mart. We're not talking about a business that improves it's existing site, but one that opened the doors with code violations and parking problems. Get a clue.
It is NOT in their agenda to mind their own business. And please know they definitely HAVE a big agenda! If you have no experience with them then research. I have both had personal experience and researched. It is not a church, not a "service to mankind" It costs to be "saved" by them and it is purely and simply a business, which makes money on the confusion and misery of others!!!!!!!!!!!
They are, in every way, just another drug!
Clean mom, maybe you can have your kids open up a lemonaide stand at Alessi's lot. You have to admit, the biggest component is already there...the lemons!
Tell your kids to watch out if they do play near Alessi's property, they might find Jimmy Hoffa.
