Another Closure

The antique store in between Karen's Place and Now And Again II, that just opened up, is going out of business.

i never visited karen's place. what's the opinon on why it closed? too many like minded businesses? overpriced merchandise? just curious. i know parking can be an issue in that location.

The place that closed was not Karen's but next door (Ashley's Gifts' old spot), I don't recall the name, but this was opened and run by Joe.

Joe kept his 'day job' and tried to run this shop as well, only open 3 days a week(I think). I spoke with him recently and he says it was just too much hassle and he burned out (quickly). He didn't complain of a lack of business or interest, just his own lack of time and energy.

IMO the Osborne property is ok if the shared parking is for businesses the are similar, such as antique shops. They share the same customer base. Just about anyone who parks there is going to visit all of the shops, not just one.

It was somewhat problematic when the Coffee Bean was open, the parking lot would get jammed at luchtime. When another eating establishment reopens in that location that problem will be back.

Anyway, I am sad that Joe couldn't make it work. I would really love for more antique shops to come to the area (of course, I am biased!). This is one type business where "the more, the merrier" and can draw more customers for each when there's several close together.

The best way to keep the Antque shops/rest/retail or any business in SH open is to patronize them! BUY THEIR STUFF!! I know it was overwelming for Joe but if he had enough business he could have paid someone a fair hourly rate to work it for him, a fair rate would be around 15. an hr.

what planet do you live on?? $15 would be a hellva good rate from many businesses. That would be roughly $31K a year for someone to run the cash register. If that were the case all his prices would be untouchable.
