More Insurance Horrors Stories
An email:
"Have you received any other emails regarding Citizens/Gulfstream cancelling policies in Seminole Heights or elsewhere. I just received my cancellation letter yesterday stating they were cancelling me because of the following:
1. Trees hang over my house
2. Roof is uneven (who's isn't?)
3. One window has a 1/2" crack
4. Roof flashing bent upwards
All bogus reasons. My insurance agent said they are doing this to a lot of people. The fact is I live in a 1926 house. I just had a roofing inspection last year where I was told my roof had 5-10 years of life left in it. There is no bent flashing anywhere. There isn't a house in Seminole Heights without trees hanging over it. It's ridiculous. I don't know what to do. I can submit proof to them that my roof is okay, fix the window and ask the city to cut the trees (they are on city right of way), but I was told there was no guarantee they'd reinstate me. If I get cancelled I have no where else to go.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem."

Sounds like it won't matter what you fix, your dropped. It's sad that big business can do this in this day and age.Oh wait, The Bush boys are the ring leaders, nevermind.
Just waiting for the axe to fall here. We're on Gulfstream, too. Of course, when we get kicked back to Citizen's I expect a HUGE premium increase.
Do what we did if you have a mortgage we let our insurance drop from citizens because of all the crap they gave us and the mortgage appointed us an insurance company which was only 1700.00 a year and for 200.00 more we had all our personal property covered as well I'm saving almost a thousand dollars this way and I don't have to go through anymore crap with Citizens and I'm getting the exact same coverage with the appointed insurance coverage
Citizens will insure you - just be prepared for a large increase over your current policy.
Amanda-
give me a call (your dad has the number if you can't find it) I might know of an option.
Doesn't make it any less frustrating.

VOTE DEMOCRAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since I just got my horror story cleared up this week, I sure do feel for you.
Having moved back to Tampa after exile in Austin, TX for several years, I'm beginning to see a bit of a common thread. Many insurance companies won't write homeowner's policies in TX anymore because of toxic mold claims. I had to use Lloyd's of London as my underwriter. Yet, these same companies are free to deal life, auto, flood, what have you.
Same thing is true here. What famous family has governed both states and allowed the carpetbagger insurance companies to do as they want?
My god, both brothers have managed to get re-elected while robbing us blind. Sweetheart deals to the insurance lobby, the oil lobby, and Haliburton.
-----steps off of soapbox and quietly sobs in the corner
I received a letter saying the company Citizens sold our policy to, can't think of the name off the top of head, was canceling us due to a few missing shingles. We probably do need a new roof in the next few years, but it's not leaking. And it wasn't an issue before the hurricanes.
I have Gulfstream and it is costing me $709/mo for my coverage. I was told Citizens would b cheaper. BUT, I can't get vitizens as long as Gulfstream will insure me. Oh, joy!
You can buy an HO8 policy which covers fire, theft, liabiity and that's about it. It costs about30% less than the full coverage we are all used to.
We buy many houses and always go through Adcock. We have never had a problem. Give them a try.
We use Adcock, and all they can find for our Bungalow (in good shape) is Citizens.
Same here. The ONLY insurer when I purchased my bungalow last year was Citizens. Sad.
Adcock is an agency - CITIZENS is the only underwriter providing coverage for houses over 50 years old. If you currently have coverage with someone other than Citizens it won't be long. I have already been informed that Nationwide will not be renewing my policy upon expiration next year - can't wait!
Actually, Universal is writing policies in Hillsborough and they will write on houses over 50 years.
There is at least one other but their quote was almost a $800 a year more than Citizens. We just changed our coverage to Metlife. It happens to be a benefit through my partner's employer (Verizon Wireless). It was a slow change over (6 months in the making). People might want to check their HR office for hidden benefits.

I just got a letter from Citizens saying my policy will be cancelled for "failure to provide roofing contractor's license #". I have not had any work done on my roof, and it passed the inspection that was filled out on a Citizens form.
Oh and by the way, I may not have read up on it much, but, I was unaware that republicans are the cause of hurricanes and wimpy insurance companies that refuse to sell in this state. I guess you do learn something new everyday! I put on 5 or so pounds over the last couple of months, I guess I should write my congressman to put regulations on fast food and cause my gym to stay open later. After all, the government is there to do everything for me, right?
Anon 3:15. It appears you don't have a problem accepting insurance from a "government backed" corporation that has to be bailed out by taxpayers. Quit being a typical Republican hypocrite. If the companies won't write policies then don't get insurance. If you can't by cash for your home don't accept the hidden subsidies of VA and FHA mortgages. Don't put your money in FDIC insured bank accounts...more evil government.
Republicans all hate government until it comes time to control your speech, prayer, and sex life. Then Stalin didn't have enough power. Hypocrites.
Anon 3:15
Who said anything about Republicans??? We are all upset over the doublig/tripling of our insurance. It is obviously a system that is extremly broken and the politicans we voted in to office rather than try to address the issue use it for soundbite opportunities to attemp election to the governer's office - that's BS to me.
Anon 11:29
Good answer and a reminder that no matter how much we may hate government intrusion in our daily lives it is a necessary evil for this great country we call home.
Lord someone help.. Just got my notice insurance will be no more due to a list some valid reasons and some not valid reasons and have been told to fix everything on the list and anything else I can think of and hope that the re-inspection will pass the home for insurance this is so out of control. Also in Seminole Heights older home :( Any suggestions appreciated.........
