Man With a Gun

In the hostage standoff at the Shooting Sports Inc., on Dale Mabry, the Tribune's story in this mornings paper had this interesting comment.

Basically, a cusatomer approached the shooting range, but is stopped by two people leaving the range saying "Don't go in there, he has a gun." What struck me as funny in this tragic situation is that its a shooting range - of course he has a gun.

Sadly, I had the same thought. And sadly, the person warned knew exactly what the people meant.

There is nothing tragic about this story at all. Nobody was hurt except some unstable asswipe who a month ago shot at someone else.

Good riddance. This dude was a mass murder waiting to happen.

What I want to know is; where is the control at these gun ranges that anyone can walk in and rent a gun no matter who they are? A felon even maybe? Are these people even checked out before being handed a loaded gun? I just heard that the only requirement is to sign some paper that says you are not a felon, not under mood altering medication, and a few other questions that anyone could easily lie and sign to.
There seems to be a huge loop hole at these gun ranges for any deranged person to have access in getting a weapon to do harm if that is their intention.
Unbelievable and very Scary!

I go to that particular range regularly, and can assure you that it is a safe place which attracts responsible sportspersons of all ages. Please go there yourself and you will be impressed.

11:36,
Prime example of how it takes only one freak occurrence to get people up in arms, fearing for their lives over a situation that will very likely never occur to them.
Have you ever been to a gun range? This is the only one that I've ever seen where the employees aren't armed to the teeth and loaded for bear. You'd have to be a damn fool with a suicide wish to try something like that. Which, I guess this guy was and did, but I digress. In MOST cases, the guy would have been dead on the floor before anything could have happened. This particular range is an anomaly.
We don't need more laws to protect us from the nth degree. Dangerous people will still get their hands on guns if they want to, laws be damned. And yes, that includes our Vice President. It's just more media frenzy to keep the masses in a perpetual state of fear. Stop buying it.
