St. Pete Times article on Merino's Deli. go to the second article inthe stories.

A Grass Root's approach St. Petersburg Times - St. Petersburg,FL,USA... KEEPING THE FAITH: Mike Merino knows Seminole Heights. ... And he knows what Seminole Heights needs. ...

"And he knows what Seminole Heights needs. So he's planning to open Merino's Seminole Heights Deli, tentatively by July. He intends to occupy part of Larry's Automotive service building at 6430 N Florida Ave. and perhaps eventually expand his restaurant and buy the entire building.

It's not a done deal yet but, "I'm 90 percent sure this thing is going to happen,'' he said. He plans to offer sandwiches, soups, salads and hot entrees for dine in, take out and free neighborhood delivery."

Ouch, I gotta say that one quote hurts 'In the meantime, he's working on making his latest restaurant a reality and "taking the neighborhood one step forward into being another South Tampa.''' Not cool. SH is worlds away from South Tampa and I hope it stays as such.

I gotta agree with ya, 'Moose... If he's clued-in enough to know what Seminole Heights needs, you'd think he'd know we tend to not identify with South Tampa.

(He may have only been refering to South Howard-style shopping, though, so we should probably cut the man some slack here.)

His first attempt at opening a restaraunt in Seminole Heights didn't pan out. The building he was going to use is now being town down. I hope this one actually comes through. A deli would be nice; I miss the old Rigos.
