Renee Stewart also followed up on the 22nd and Sligh transfer station issue by asking Parks to upgrade the area to a neighborhood park. She posted this on the Mal Carne Follow Up posting, but so it does not get lost in all those comments I am reposting it here. Is this something OSHNA would want to push? Get one part of City playing against another part?

This would be a wonderful park for so many things. If it were cleaned up and named what a great place to take the kids and dogs for a picnic. We need more neighborhood parks in the city to help bring neighbors together as friends. The more neighbors know about each other the better the neighborhood watch. Please consider this as a park and not a "Neighborhood Drop Off Site". Thank you for your time.

Dear Renee, The Parks and Recreation Department agrees that this site would make a great neighborhood park. We will be working with the community in the next year to develop a master plan for the site. This will help us determine the community needs and funding needed for improvements. We would then look at requesting funding the following year.

While I have already forwarded her prior post to the attention of the board it will need more than the voice of OSHNA to push. Even though it will positively affect the area it is technically out of the boundaries of the association but to have all association presidents make a statement would certainly go a long way in pushing it forward.
Note though in the response that Renee received - even if it gets the official go ahead it will have to be put in the '08 budget so that means action (if approval is granted) will not start until '09 if then.
We, as a neighborhood need to keep focused on getting this area designated as a park.

Don't forget folks, today(Tuesday, 27 March) is the Runoff election. For whomever you vote, please go out and exercise your "voice."
