Seminole Heights resident becomes Assistant Chief of Police

Major Jane Castor, District 2 commander has been promoted to Assistant Chief of Police for Operations.

"Chief Castor joined the department in February of 1984. She has served in a variety of assignments in the Patrol Divisions, Narcotics Bureau, Criminal Investigative Division, Criminal Intelligence Bureau and Administrative Division. She was promoted to Assistant Chief in August of 2005, holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the University of Tampa where she attended on an athletic scholarship and a Masters of Public Administration from Troy State University. Chief Castor is also a graduate of the FBI's National Academy."

I first met her when was the Sergeant of the sex crimes/child abuse detectives. She was one of the best leaders who that section we have had. This has continued on in others areas she has led. Jane has been a resident of Seminole Heights for years and so knows intimately the problems we face. Once of the reasons Seminole Heights is a better place to live is due to the work she and fellow Major George McNamara (District 1) did once they took over command over Seminole Heights area. (Jane has north of Hillsborough and George south of Hillsborough). This promotion to Assistant Chief is a good thing for Tampa, Seminole Heights, and the gay community. St. Pete Times has a good article.
