Iron on Resistance

Driving on Florida Avenue, Susan and I came across the following images

Iron On Resistance

Obey

These were all found at the Praise Cathedral at 5103 N. Florida Ave

Then at the old Eckerd's at MLK and Nebraska we found more images

Dirty but Sophisticated

and some different Obey images

So what's up with these?

A Google search revealed the following website http://irononresistance.com/ "An Art Product Collective for Your Proletarian Lifestyle" - Coming in November.

There is no further explanation. However there is a link to Red Labor http://www.redlabor.com/ Red Labor is the work of artists Josh Bertrand and Dave Rau. In that website and blog is this comment:

Well, how about some tshirts, purses, ipod cases, buttons and limited
edition clothing and screen prints; maybe you’re interested you say?

There's some of this near the Tampa theater and on Nebraska in Ybor Heights near the I-4 underpass.

The urban artist and activist in me is curious. But part of me also considers it nothing more than a higher quality of grafiti, vandalism, and trash.

There's an exhibition at the USF Contemporary Art Museum called Beautiful Losers. Unfortunate title aside, it's a great collection of art from what's considered street culture - skateboarding, graffiti and so on. There are some pictures of Red Labor's work there. It runs through December 17 - check it out.
