Personal Trainers
Asour dog Ella gets healthier, the more we need obedience training. Any suggestions? Anyone ever try the trainers that come to your home?
This was the original Seminole Heights blog with commentary about life in and around the urban neighborhood of Seminole Heights in Tampa, Florida. Musings about other topics as my mood permits. The blog is essentially inactive since I moved to Lutz. Go to The Official Unofficial Seminole Heights Blog - www.seminoleheightsblog.com for active content.

Due to a new hound in our house (http://queenbarbee.livejournal.com/442692.html) - I've been looking into the same thing, and unfortunately have not found a cost effective option.
Here's the trainer that I did find: http://www.trainwithcynthia.com/philosophy.php
However - I have been using NILIF and other "home" training methods.
Here's some links on what I've found and have been using: http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

Haven't used them personally, but a neighbor has been using Barkbusters.com and seems to like them.
HIGHLY recommend the book Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons. You can check it out from the library- but I would buy a used copy on Amazon (or new). You'll want to refer to it.
That book and just obsessively sticking with it. Consistency, consistency. It's like living with a toddler- no matter how your day's been, they just keep it coming! energy, energy.
I have hired barkbusters- same thing, but very expensive. however, it's one time cost only, and non violent. Also, training is for life of the dog. They will come back as many times as you ask- and they train you as well as the dog.
Best of luck! (stick with it=it will happen). You have a new pack member, and everyone has to settle into a new routine. :o)
