The Independent - Update (10/01/09)

PHOTOS: (Seminole Heights) The opening of The Independent beer hall has been delayed slightly, but they are hoping to have a “soft” opening within the next 14 days. Its new exterior sign (which was put up today), plus the recent opening of Ella’s Folk Art Café, are undeniable symbols that Seminole Heights' FloNeHi retail & dining district is coming into its own. (For the record, FloNeHi = FLO-rida ave, NE-braska ave and HI-llsborough ave.) CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES.

FloNeHi??? How about we just stick to Seminole Heights?

I know where you're coming from Tommy, but one might ask: which section of Seminole Heights' 3 sq miles are we referring too? Just southeast of Lowry Park? East by the Corner Club? Or perhaps at Armenia Ave (while wrong, part of Seminole Heights per Creative Loafing's restaurant listings - ie, Yummy House). It's just an opinion, but in order to draw attention to the growing SH business district, we're going to have to pinpoint it with a simple phrase. After speaking to people in and outside of our neighborhoods for 2 years now, there is a ton of confusion about where SH is - many think Tampa Heights, many think Sulpher Springs, many are clueless. I'm up for a few alternative names/ideas, but again, to me, we know where South Tampa is-while a huge area-but with the name "SoHo" we know where in South Tampa it is located. I strongly believe this is a proven method that can work in SH.

I agree with Tommy nix the FloNeHi.

We are Seminole Heights.

How about just "The H." An abbreviation of "The Heights," which is an abbreviation of "Seminole Heights." FloNeHi doesn't roll off the tongue. Plus, it just sounds like we're all trying a little too hard to create a "Brangelina" name. IMHO.
