Regarding the sewage line break, here is the latest update from an email from Christie Hess:
1 - On Saturday, June 3rd, the contractor will be inspecting the pipe, both upstream and downstream of the break, to ensure it is structurally sound.
2 - Also on Saturday, preparation for a by-pass line will occur so that restoration of the break can begin.
3 - No later than Tuesday, June 6th, a 36" steel pipe will be installed above ground on the East side of Norfolk to Sligh Ave. This above ground pipe will serve as the by-pass line. This will result in the intersection of Norfolk and 12th Street being closed to all traffic. Signs and barricades will be placed to indicate the flow of traffic for the residents in the area.
4. The by-pass is expected to be operable by Wednesday, June 7th.
5. The Wastewater Department expects the repairs and restoration to be complete in approximately 2-3 weeks, weather permitting and other unforeseen emergencies.
6. As the situation changes, regular updates will be provided.
Last night I saw several residents in the area around the site, I strongly suggest that everyone stay away from this area. There are signs posted to let everyone know of the unsafe situation both from a standpoint of health and safety. Please heed these warnings and keep your children away from the site. If you have any questions or concerns please let someone who can assist you know. You can call Wastewater at 259-1697 or me at 237-8808.
To keep you healthy, instead of going to the sewage line break site, check out on Bike Stories the photos the Alan Snel took as he was biking this morning.
