So much for Panera, but ...

better than an auto repair shop.

From the looks of it, it appears we have a trend of new restaurants coming into S.H.

Newly opened Bungalow Bistro was bustling with its brunch Sunday and of course we all have heard about the sports bar slated to be built on Nebraska.

Now, the St. Pete Times reports, that LeRoy's 4x4 is likely to become a bar and grille. The City Council will hear a wet-zoning application in December.

  1. I wouldn't be too upset about the lack of a Panera. Rumour has it that Sangria's is to be moving in to that spot. If this is the same Sangria's as is in SoHo, I'd say that it is a definite plus for the neighborhood.
Without starting the corporate war anew, I personally would prefer a locally owned, casual-upscale restaurant to yet another place to get a sandwich that is also a coporate icon of suburban sprawl.
Again, assuming that this is the same as in SoHo, the owner is a nice guy, the food good, and the prices reasonable. All in all, I think that it would be a much bigger benefit to our neighborhood in the long run than a big box sandwich joint.
Just my opinion, which is worth about as much as the cyber-paper that it is written on.

  2. I'm with you Mal; however if it was a Leroy's or Panera, I'd of course take the latter. But when you're talking an independant vs. Panera, I'd take the independent (almost) every time. (There's always exceptions ...)

Thanks for the news. I'd have to say that will be a huge Sangrias, if that's the case. Perhaps they will bring other businesses to fill the extra spaces ... which makes the pending deal even more attractive to me.

  3. It is the same owner as the SoHo Sangrias...and yes, he is a nice guy.

He has a partner on this venture, and they told me they plan to actually have more than one restaurant on the property.

    Very exciting!!

  5. Enough with the big chains! Panera food is loaded with fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. We need REAL bagels in the Heights. Bagels like Clearwater Bagels.

  6. SUSHI!!! :-) We want sushi. Gimmie my fish raw, thanks.

Tapas and wine in the early evenings would be wonderful. Nothing like a lazy Friday meal.
