Our friend, Alan Snell, of Bike Stories reports the owner of the northwest corner of Florida and Hillsborough Ave. is bucking used car lot owners' offers to buy the property and is instead trying to start a Farmers' Market.
Alan wrote "Rob [the owner] said he's going to have the freshest fruits and veggies and will eventually build a small structure to house the goods. But for now, he'll sell the stuff from his green truck. A white fence is coming, too, on this property that he owns."
I think the premise seems positive and community serving -- and its success could encourage other property owners to continue to say no to car lots.
Please stop by the Farmers' Market, anytime between 7-2pm on Saturdays. There might not only be great produce deals there -- but you just might find yourself a business opportunity.

Thanks and tell Rob THANKS !
ReplyDeleteEven only marginal fresh produce is better than another car lot. I'll be there Sat.
ReplyDeleteI remember living in Hyde Park when they had one at Swann and Howard. It was very popular -- but such is Hyde Park -- the place got mowed down and replaced with a doctor's office.
ReplyDeleteI stopped by there on Sat. The owner seems like a really nice guy and the produce is pretty good quality. Oh yeah, and the prices are very resonable.
ReplyDeleteRight now the selection is a little limited, but I'm quite sure that it will expand as business grows. I wish him all the success in the world. Give him a try.
I would like to thank the residents of Seminole Heights for all the "neighborhood" support, we are getting for our new venture. Right now we are limited on what we sell, as we are trying to build a "solid" customer base. But so far based on all the positive feedback we feel that we can continue to grow. Also, "If we don't have it, just ask, and we'll get it !"
ReplyDeleteBeing "lifelong" residents of Seminole Heights, we saw the importance of the "neighborhood market" and what it could do for "our" neighborhood but, it can't be done without you the satisfied customer.
So, in addition to being out there on Saturdays - we are "considering" adding a wholesale fruit & vegetable "home delivery" service (weekly,SH areas only) right to your front door. But, we would like the neighborhoods input - Would you be interested ?? PLEASE - email me with any questions, comments, or concerns @ rdaymay64@yahoo.com.
Again, thank you and i'm looking forward to seeing you Saturday @ the LIL' GREEN TRUCK. - Rob
