(Perhaps another reason for 2-waying Florida Ave????)
TAMPA – Tampa police are investigating after a teen was hit by a car on her way to school on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007.
The accident happened at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Osborne Avenue in Tampa. Police say a 15-year-old girl was hit while crossing the street, and she has been taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They say the girl is a sophomore at Hillsborough High School.
The driver of the car was an elderly man who police say stayed at the scene.
No other details were immediately available.
This is tragic, but any evening take a drive up Florida from downtown until around Home Depot, right about dusk(Nebraska might be just as bad.) There's always at leastt a handful of people crossing midblock. Up near USF on both Fletcher and Fowler, it's even worse, like a nightmarish game of Frogger. As amarathonguy mentioned in another post, even crossing in crosswalks is pretty scary, but given the number of people that cross wherever they choose, it's a wonder more people aren't hurt.
ReplyDeleteThere is a proper crosswalk there -- which many kids use to get to Memorial Middle and Hillsborough High.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who jogs down and across Florida Ave., I would suggest that adreneline junkies can save their cash at Busch Gardens and just join me for a run.
My understanding was the child was not using the crosswalk unfortunately.
