Thanks to an alert resident on the SESH email list, I was made aware of an update to the ongoing saga - (it moved from a story to a saga a while ago and is moving to epic status now)
To recap: The neighborhood was able to get an illegal boarding house in the area that housed more than 15 people, capped at 5. The surplus went to the an illegal boarding space at the Solid Rock Church of Jesus on 2746 N. Florida Ave. That place as hit by Code , TPD and everyone else and the surplus got moved to a duplex in Sulphur Springs.
I thought the City had closed down the illegal boarding house at the Church but as per Chris Martinez of ABC Action News - no.
He found that there were still people living there. Because they were sex offenders, he was able to track their location there.

According to the news story, this has been allowed to continue because the City was too busy to take care of it.
And when little Alexis is raped, and left for dead in her princess outfit, I will just hunt them down and handle it the way may grandpappy would have.
ReplyDeletePam aint seen a revolt by the people yet.
Let them eat cake is just not working anymore.
Pam does care, she just doesnt care about enforcing the law...........Youre right about this turning into a problem of epic proportions. I am thinking about starting a petition and giving it to Chris Martinez.
ReplyDeleteOh So Sorry, The city was too busy building a riverwalk, too busy organizing a drunken parade with 100's of TPD officers, too busy to care! I am very glad Greco is not running, however, very dissappointed someone else has not stepped up. I am hoping that SYKES can be convinced to run. The guy comes with little or no baggage and millions of dollars. The only reason Iorio will win is no one is running against her. I think the city would show her the door if someone semi-decent was running. Too bad Rick Baker can't come to Tampa. I guarantee you he would have this crap hole cleaned up within his first four years. I guess if any of these problems were around the Cleveland Street area, they would have been fixed immediately.
ReplyDeleteSEND A MESSAGE TO CITY HALL....OUST IORIO!
While I understand your frustration, you need to realize that this problem is not just a Curtis Lane and Pam Iorio issue. On several occassion Mr. Santiago's office had assured us, as parents, that steps would be taken to eradicate this problem. Yet nothing was done. There does seem to be a pattern with this adminstration-- offer lip service, do nothing! While they are all likable people, it is time we have leaders that aren't afraid to make a change so that we can move forward. Since Iorio has taken office, the city has declined in cleanliness, I would be curios to see acurate crime stats, etc. How hard is it for her to work with FDOT to ensure that our freeway system is cleaned of litter. How long has she been promising a litter campaign, how long has see been touting improved code enforcement, how long has she promised foreclosures and tougher fines? Yet none of this happens, and even worse, our taxes continue to increase while city services and reliablity decrease. I like the idea of the civic associations banning together to launch a "rock the vote Seminole Heights Style" and try to elect officials that will work for us for a change, not against us!
ReplyDeleteI have a homeowner a couple of doors down from me who thinks having a rooster in their back yard is cool. The F!$@%ing rooster starts at about 4:30 every morning and has done so for a month. The owner has told other neighbors that the rooster isn't going anywhere, and it's legal to own one in Tampa.
ReplyDeleteSo, I wait for it to go off at 4:30am and call TPD to file a disturbing the peace complaint.
TPD response: Call Animal control, we can't do anything about it.
My response: Call animal control, report rooster in city limits.
Animal control response: As far as we're concerned, having a rooster in the city limits is legal, it's a city code violation, call code enforcement.
My response: Call Code Enforcement, report illegal rooster.
Code's response: We'll send a letter and wait 21 days to inspect the property, if the rooster is still there after 21 days we'll send another letter, wait another 21 days and inspect again. If it's still there after that we'll send another letter and wait another 21 days. If it's still there after 21 days we *may* file charges and bring the owner to court where we *may* give them another 21 days, or we *may* fine them.
So I guess I have approx another 80 days of being woken up at 4:30am with absolutely nothing I can do about it.
In my short experience with Code, Animal Control, and TPD, I think they all suck.
regarding Karin's comment -
ReplyDeletewe have the opportunity to elect Randy Baron to city council on March 6 - that would rock the boat and make the city look at Seminole Heights as something more than a dumping ground or a neighborhood that gets minimal attention until we get the media involved.
Every chance we get to raise the profile of the neighborhood by positve news or actions or getting someone elected that realizes we are a viable neighborhood is a step in the right direction.
Regarding the rooster...do you own a dog?
ReplyDeleteRandy has my vote!
ReplyDeleteIt is time someone stand up to the ineffective leadership of Tampa. I saw Randy's plane by the way at Gasparilla. BRILLIANT!
Every person I have spoken with has said "I am voting for Mayor Iorio. Not because I want to, because she is the only choice." I have never "Not voted" in my life. This election, unless someone does not come forward, I will vote for anyone other than her. I too am hoping that Greco can convince Mr. Sykes to run.
