Beverly Morrow a finalist for City Council

Former SE Seminole Heights president, Beverly Morrow, was a finalist for the temporary District 5 City Council spot.

Per the Times:
"It took four rounds of voting for Reddick to win. His next closest competitor was Beverly Morrow, a community activist in Seminole Heights."

At one point it was tied with 2 votes for Beverly (Saul-Sena and Alvarez) and two votes for Frank Reddick.

This was notable for a couple of reasons.

1. Beverly is not black. Traditionally (and understandibly as the district is predominately black) that seat has been held by African-Americans.

2. She was not one of the big name candidates that the Times or Trib focused on.

Yea Beverly!

  1. Why you be perpetrating and pontificating your racist hypothesis that only a brotha can score victory in a neighborhood of persons of color?

  3. I am Black and know Frank personally. He is a nice guy but is way out of his league; no substance. He has been over Sickle Cell for years and has done NOTHING in the Black to elevate awareness or raise money in the community other than sponsor an old school dance once a year. Beverly can win this race if Seminole gets up and running NOW. Does Beverly have a job? Frank works fulltime. Don't we need a fulltime council member?

  4. What does race have to do with having the best possible person represent District 5? The demographics of District 5 has changed so much, I doubt seriously if Black people make up the majority. Someone should research this? Lets get the best person, forget about race. If the best qualified is Black... Great, if the best qualified person is White... Great, Blue, Purple Yellow, Red...Great. Get over this race thing. Sometimes I think the only time the race card will lose its power is if the next war is fought in the US. Something to think about...

  6. This was the selection for the 4 month replacement for Kevin White. Beverly is not running in the general election (at least as of now). The only Seminole Heights resident running so far in the general election is Randy Baron for a city-wide seat.

  7. All I want to say is as a SESH resident, I am very proud of Beverly. I wish she had been chosen, but I think it is wonderful she was a runner up. Maybe she will actually run for a seat some day!

  8. You can not convice me that this was not a race vote. I think the city council may be out of touch with what this district is now. I personally am very involved with city functions and I don't recall knowing who this person is. Beverly on the other hand is know by almost all civic groups. She is one of the hardest working women I know. Congrats Beverly!

  9. If Beverly or anybody is going to run, they better hurry up and file. I understand Kevin White is behind Frank Reddick and is doing EVERYTHING he can to get him elected. What a shame another!
