In the Trib there is an article about the upcoming City Council race. Former City Council members Bob Buckhorn and Scott Paine analyze the race.
About our candidate they had this to say:
"Buckhorn and Paine give the edge to Miller. She is well-connected politically, thanks in part to her husband, former state Sen. Les Miller.
"It's very difficult to beat an incumbent, particularly the chairwoman," Buckhorn said. "I think Gwen runs, I think Gwen wins."
Baron, president of the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association, could become a popular candidate, but will have to work hard to make his name known citywide, Buckhorn said."
So how do we work hard ot make his name known? What edge do we have over Gwen Miller? Work the neighborhood associations? Use our computer sophistication? Do we have to create some You Tube video that will get some buzz?
I think Randy has to go on the attack and create a buzz in the media.

Stage a couple of media events. Get to know the reporters at the Times and Trib who cover the citywide races.
Sitting back and putting people to sleep discussing the minutae of issues is a sure fire way to put Miller back into office.

ReplyDeleteGwen Miller is about the most useless person in all of politics that I have ever seen in my whole life. She is proof that if you are a black politician in a black dominated area, then you will get elected. It doesn't matter what you do, or how smart (or dumb) you are. The only thing that is important is the color of your skin. Hey BLACK people. Have a little pride.

FYI, there is not bait here, only hard, cold FACT. Face up to it and deal with it!! We have many examples of this: The Reverend Thomas Scott, Mr. Kevin White, and Ms. Gwen Miller.

Confusingly almost racist remarks and suggestions for attack campaigns aside, how does a candidate get their name out, especially on a grass roots level? I'd guess that you would start small and quickly try to work your way up.
ReplyDeleteI've been approached by an associate of Julie Jenkins, asking if I might host a meet and greet in SH so that she might get some face time and name recognition in the neighborhood. Not sure if I'm going to do it as I don't know enough about her at this point, but the strategy seems sound; get into the neighborhoods and make the name known.
Incumbents get re-elected simply because voters know their names, no matter how crappy of a job that they've done. If an area of town or segment of the population traditionally vote one way, go out and make the name known, one block at a time.
I guess it's a little old fashioned, but in the minds of voters, I believe that face time trumps media coverage.

ReplyDeleteSeminole Heights Proper (South, Old and SE) is filled with Advertising Professionals, Marketing Professionals and PR professionals. Most of these people would donate unlimited time and creative ides to put his campaign on. Randy needs to send out an "all call" creative meeting-- Seminole Heights Style to get the troops ready. We don't have much time, so the sooner the better. In addition, Seminole Heights is the Media's Golden Neighborhood.
