I've been asked by the blog writers to outline my rough guidelines for the blog.
Basically it is: Is this of interest to Seminole Heights? Is this something that occurs in Seminole Heights? Is this something about a Seminole Heights resident or business owner, even if it occurs outside of the neighborhood? Is this something that directly affects Seminole Heights? Occasionally info or stories about neighboring neighborhoods (Sulphur Springs, Lowry Park, Riverside Heights, Tampa Heights, East Tampa, Wellswood and others). Interesting personal experiences of Seminole Heights bloggers outside of Seminole Heights can also be included as long as it does not get to be too much.
The focus of this blog is local and not national.
And don't forget the insertion of your personal stories pertaining to solely your life or for your benefit only. "It's your" blog you can do what you want but you can't say it's solely to dessimenate local news about the community oru neighborhood. It's for your personal satisfaction and to fill a need within yourself and the outcome also includes a one stop source for local news.
ReplyDeleteWell yes you are right, however, I believe Scott did not even use the words LOCAL NEWS, he said, "things of interest to Seminole Heights" To me that includes personal things, be they opinions, comments, stories or photos of the blogger and others that live in the hights.
ReplyDeleteI suspect is an issue of what is of interest. Each human is different. But many of us enjoy the inserts of personal things. Lets us know our host. Gives a more compete picture. So, I take exception that they are for the host only.
And, in fact, it reminds me very much of the balance that local news stations like to have..some serious and some HUMAN INTEREST!
Keep on keeping on Scott, we like it all!
What if the national issues have direct effects on us right here in Seminole Heights?
ReplyDeleteThanks to Scott's blog, all of us who read it are more informed about our neighborhood and our neighbors. I will really miss Scott when he leaves. I will also miss the updates on Ella and the stories about Scott and Susan's car search, remodeling etc. Yes, it is HIS
ReplyDeleteblog and he will be missed. So enjoy it while you can. I hope someone else takes the time to keep on top of the events in our neighborhood.
I understand the description you mention in this post on what you post here. But there are vast controdictions in your action.
ReplyDeleteWas Officer Matt Williams associated with seminole Heights? Was your 911 post after the memorial related to Seminole Heights directly?
I think a more honest approach of simply stating that these are the rough guidelines, but choose to add any blogs the author of the blog seems fit would suffice. It is your blog and you have the right to do what you want with it.
Sometimes national news effects us in our homes regardless of where you live. How does that effect my neighbors here in Seminole Heights? I would like to know because that defines who we are as Seminole Heights residents.
God, people, take a freaking pill and quityerbitching!!!
ReplyDeleteTo anon 2:40. Do not chastize Scott for my error. I am new to posting and I posted the Officer Williams post. I am also the one who requested guidelines from Scott so that I would not do anything to change the flavor of his blog. Unfortunately, I posted that before he had an opportunity to respond. However, a couple of days ago we did have a long discussion about what is and what is not good content for the blog. We had another more philosophical conversation about it this morning. I will be a good blogger from now on.
ReplyDeleteNo one is bitching, except for the accusers of the bitching...Can people distinguish debating/ conversation from bitching?
ReplyDeleteInteresting fact in our evolvement in the human race:
While technology has grown leaps and bounds, our morality as humans has perhaps regressed. While reason and objectivity would be an evolutional progression, most our our society has been conditioned to allow their emotional states to rule their actions.
Wake up before its too late!

ReplyDeleteWhose chastizing Scott?

Cigar City and saving the old factories
This is not in any of the decribed topic areas. All I am saying is that there is holes in the description. As stated before, its Scott's blog and he has every right to post whatever he wants. Why not just say that?
Disagree 11:43. Human beings have been hateful to each other, since we crawled out of the primordal ooze. Any data to back up your "interesting fact"?
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ, I think it was covered in the topics. The Cigar Factories do affect our neighborhood. Tampa has always been a city that did not protect it's historic buildings and landmarks. The outcome on these factory's could have a major impact on the future of historic structures throughout the city. If they don't protect these beauties, what will they do for some of the commercial structures in our area?

ReplyDeleteIt is in fact not covered in the description of the blog. I do agree thought that they affect our neighborhood. The point that is being made is that there are many variables effecting our neiborhood at the local, state, and national level that are not described as potential subject matter for the blog.
To Anon 6:23, Yes, there has been hate since the dawn of man. Lets start with the indiginous indian tribes on this very continent as a starting point for the plethora of data supporting this 'interesting fact' that morality is in decline vs our technololical status. Look, there has never been a system in place capable of conditioning the masses at a global scale as there exists today, thanks to our technology. This system is promoting judgement based on emotions rather than reason. Why are asians blowing us away in academics? It is not because they are genetically smarter. They are tought to think. We on the other hand are systematically being dumbed down as a society, making it easier for the powers that be to control our lives. These are all facts, which isn't the point of this post. All you have to do is look for it, and it is readily available, for now. The point is that these issues that face us right here in Seminole Heights are being laid out not only in our neighborhoods, but at larger levels. If you understand the chaos theory of organization, you can see how fractals work from small to larger scales identically. We need to catch our morality up with our technology before we screw ourselves over. Fact.
ReplyDeleteMorality is relative. Pat Robertson thinks of himself as moral. I believe he is evil. Bush believes he was morally right in invading Iraq. Al-Quaeda believes they are morally right in killing as many Westerners as they can along with a backstage pass to the 72 virgins tour. You are mistaking your firmly held ideals for facts. I do however agree with the last statement of your post.
ReplyDeleteOf course morality is relative. That is not the point. The point is using reason over emotions to dictate our actions. Reason is debatable too. We can still strive for progress rather than perfection, as perfection is perhaps unattainable. Unfortunately today we are striving for technological progress over humanitarian progress. Regardless of this being an ideal or fact, it effects us gravely. And the internet is the best place for finding out how larger events are effecting us locally since 90% of the mass media is controlled by 6 mega corporations, protecting its interests over its viewers.
ReplyDeleteNow that there are several contributors to the blog, is there any way to tell who has written a particular post?
ReplyDeleteYes, Anon 10:04, you can tell who posted to the blog. The first line under the entry that starts out "Links to this article posted by ......" That identifies who put the topic thread on the blog.
