Found Chained Dog

This dog was found running loose around Ellicot and 1oth Street this afternoon. Apparently having broken the chain that was holding it to something.

No collar. Just a chain. Lovely.

This dog needs a new owner. Someone who does not chain a dog. For right now, David at 1001 Ellicot (corner 10th) will hold it in his backyard. Please help. Posted by Picasa

  1. I hope he does not give the dog back to the owner.
    How cruel.
If anyone comes a knocking for it, call the police or animal control immediately.
    Good owners only.

  3. give me a frickin break - they aren't necessarily horrible people b/c the dog was on a chain.

  5. I was shocked to see how many people in the neighborhood chain their dogs up. The other night we walked around the neighborhood and saw at least 6 dogs chained. While you say it is not cruel, it is hard to see a dog tied up, tangled around things. Good luck finding a new home!

  6. I think I may have seen this dog at the newly remodeled blue house at 9th and New Orleans. I think that is the right corner. IF so, it would be about a block away and would make sense. It is the house that has new sod and drive and no fence! Go figure a pet owner with real priorities! How do you buy a home, especially a high dollar home, have an older pet, and not put up a fence as a first priority. At least build him a small run so he is safe outdoors.

  7. Yes that does mean they are bad owners.
    A chain around the neck?
    No collar?
    Thats is cruelty to animals.

  8. Actually, screw the owners of that dog. You wrap a chain around a dog's neck? No collar? David may be keeping the dog. He said it took him 30 minutes to get the dog to come to him this morning. He went to pet the dog and the dog reacted like he was used to being beaten. The dog looked thin and lastly the dog is not neutered. In my mind you best have a damn good reason to not have a dog spayed or neutered.

  9. A dog on a chain with no benefit of a colar is a sure sign someone does not care. People who don't care any more than this about their dog, should never own one!

I am guessing, if this owner gave a darn there would be posters in the hood and an attempt to find the dog.

This guy is far better off with someone who will give it the love and attention it deserves.

  10. It is against the law to not have a dog collared and properly tagged a$$wipe.
I feel like I want to kick your a$$.
The dog can't even speak for itself.
I hope he does keep it.
    The dog doesn't deserve that.

Yesterday,I met the cutest dog.The owner is from Ga.and he walks her on Hanna Ave.

Boy! is she pretty. She is a shepard

No animal four legged or two should be "chained".

  12. Well, let's put a chain around yor neck and see what you think about it. Just try it for one single day out in the hot sun.

  13. No matter how you look at it, its WRONG.
Why do you think the dog broke the chain?
So he could go and get the he!! on up out of there.
He would rather eat from the trash than have to put up with that.
He gave him the middle claw and found someone that loves him now.

  14. My neighbors across the street have the cutest mix breed dog, he's young (maybe 7-9 months) and un- neutered. They either let him run loose or, when they do decide to restrain him, it's in their front yard, on a 6-foot leash, in the blazing sun, with no shade. He comes to my yard every chance he gets. He's sweet, playful and loves people, but not his owners. When I call him, he comes, when his owners call him, he runs further down the street. I wish I could steal him and make him part of my family, but alas, #1, I live right across the street, I think they'd notice, and #2, three dogs are quite enough for me right now.

We've already had an exchange with the neighbor about the dog's running loose ... we approached it in a friendly "your dog is going to get hit by one of the many speeding cars that blaze up this street" angle, but the woman just shrugged it off, claiming no responsibility for the dog, because "it belongs to her son".

I hate to say it, but I really want to take the dog next time he's in my yard, and find him a good home.

Go ahead, bloggers, post your comments blasting me about how wrong that is to "take" someone's pet ... and ask me how I can be assured that I will find it a good home. Believe me, I have a little "angel" on one shoulder telling me to do one thing, and a little "devil" on the other shoulder directing me to the contrary.

I'd like some feedback. I don't want to simply ignore the situation. Last night at 4am, I was stirred from my sleep because my dogs were barking like crazy. The reason? This cute little renegade dog was running loose in my yard, and everyone else's.

I would call animal control, but am so afraid he will only be held for so long and then be euthanized. Then again, the thought of coming out of my house one morning and finding him dead, the victim of a speeding car, keeps me up at night, too.

What to do????? I'd love some feedback.

  15. Two words..
    ANIMAL CONTROL

Look it up in the phone book under Hillsborough County.
I call them every chance I get.

  16. I've found the folks at animal control to be very helpful also. Give 'em a try.

  17. Isn't it funny that we have more sympathy for our pets than for each other? I have two dogs and we treat them like our children. If only we were as caring about our neighbors...

  18. I have a dog that I treat like a child and I love dogs...but I don't love them barking ALL night! Is there anything that can be done about barking dogs in the neighborhood? I keep my dogs inside at 3AM so they don't bark and wake people up. I wish others would do the same. One starts barking and there goes the whole neighborhood. I haven't had a full night of sleep since I moved into the area over a year ago. Any suggestions?

  19. Oh lord FlyerAnon it has happened again. I agree with you! At least in part. IF the animal in question is salvagable, try to save it first. IF it is a nest of pit bulls, call animal control. I am sorry, but mean pit bulls need to be put down. Not talking about the breed in general as I know many genuinely sweet pits, but those who have been left outside, beaten and generally not socialized have no place to go because they are too dangerous.

This dog was just an unloved pup and I would never call animal control, I would do whatever I could to find a home for him.

  20. My comment wasnt meant to turn in every dog to animal control to be killed.
But if you dont call them when you see an abused dog, the owners will never be punished.
With something like this, the best thing to do is to let the guy take ownership.
    Its really awful.

  21. Not being tagged for which the owner can be ticketed.
Such as the case with this dog.
Running at large so the dog will get hit by a car eventually and die a horrible death.
Being chained up without any water such as probably the case with this dog.
    Being chained up at all.
The dogs can get tangled up.
If you have an animal, they need to be properly taken care of or don't own one at all.
The shelter does not put down all dogs but the reason they have to put down any is because of irresponsible owners.
