This was the original Seminole Heights blog with commentary about life in and around the urban neighborhood of Seminole Heights in Tampa, Florida. Musings about other topics as my mood permits. The blog is essentially inactive since I moved to Lutz. Go to The Official Unofficial Seminole Heights Blog - www.seminoleheightsblog.com for active content.
You tell me. Let me count the ways... One inoperative vehicle.. Two inoperative vehicles.. Three bad fences.... Four Junk everywhere... Five loud stereos all the time.... Six Cars on the right of way.... Seven Looks like a junkyard... Eight If you dont know, you better ask someone.
True. Nothing raises your property value like a junkyard next to your house! I envy those that live right by it. (can you smell the sarcasm? Cuz I'm laying in on pretty thick)
There is beauty in everything, if you choose to see it.
These items that are being referred to as an eyesore are held so close to us everyday. We simply have a pretty painted 'wrapper' to delude us. This 'stuff' has to go somewhere. Oh, just not in your backyard.
We can get nasty if you want. BuddaB!tch must be your name. Maybe if the stereos aren't blasting at all hours from that place then I might not be quite the jerk I am right now. How about I take all the dirty pampers that are thrown into my yard and leave them lined up along the entrance to the business until they comply with the code. I am killing two birds with one stone. I am getting rid of the dirty pampers in my yard and I am stinking them out of buisness so I can hear my TV during the day.
What the heck is so difficult about following the city code, oh that's right, the city doesn't even know their own code. If everyone would follow the same standards, there would be no problems. This place is more than an eyesore, it is dangerous. With kids playing across the street at the park, there are issues of rodents, snakes etc. It is not safe. However, our wonderful code girl I am sure has already cited them, but the asses above her will tie her hands and we will have to deal with this jerk for years to come. Instead of constantly bitching and complaining, maybe we should all write letters to our wonderful city leaders to get the Code leaders fired. Curtis Lane, Harold Scott, Bill D and all of the lazy bums should be immediately retired. If whoever is over the 3 stooges does not realize this need, then he or she should walk too. C'mon, enough is enough. Maybe if we would start putting pressure on the city and hold them liable for the Deterioration of our neighborhoods, maybe something would change. But let us not forget, they live in South and Far north Tampa, like they give a rats ass about any other area, at least it is not in thier backyard.
I have snakes under my house and rats in the attic, as do most every house in the neighborhood. Kids play on my street too. If this place doesn't go in our backyard, or anyone else's back yard, where does it go? Also, our neighborhood has been progressing, not deteriorating. It deteriorated after suburban sprawl first came through town. Then followed an influx of low-cost prices and homeowners. Currently, I think things are drastically inproving. We can only take one bite of this elephant at a time.
I think they only really care about Southeast Seminole Heights from what I can tell. Nothing is fast in the city but at least the problems I call in aren't disappearing anymore. Houdini has left the building ladies and gentleman.
PAAAALEEEEASE! We need business like this to do what, keep the neighborhood down! All this does is create noise, makes the neighborhood look bad which invites more crime. (It would be interesting to see if the crime stats vary from when it was the clean funeral home to now a salvage yard)We become too complacent with businesses like this and tolerated them destroying all the hard work we have worked so hard. Do you honestly think any of the legit businesses would have invested in our neighborhood if all of the commercial corridors looked like this. I have nothing wrong with the business if it is conducted propery. Since it is an automotive business, it should be required to have a automotive garage so work can be done inside, does it comply. How the Hell can the city give business permits to these types of businesses without examining the location. Don't you remember the Tire store on Nebraska years back that did not even have a garage. They would jack the cars up in the parking lot and change the tires. How is this acceptable. I can only imagine the environmental damages this place is creating now. (And trust me, I am no tree hugger) I am just sick of these asses tearing down our neighborhood. I am tired of us working our asses off with our properties only to have the city allow a church in a home, a funeral home with 20 parking spaces, a convenience store with no parking, automotive businesses with no garage. If we don't all start bitching now, it will only get worse.
FYI This has been cited! Including the highly visual green van with no windows!

Look at the truck stop that has form right in front of the Park & springs pool on the river. 25 + tractor trailers its a eyesore.
