Crack Question

What is the best way to fill cracks/gaps between floorboards when there is no subfloor? Wood putty? Bondo?

  1. Bondo and wood putty are probably not good choices because as the floor flexes from being walked on they will eventually crack and start falling out making a big mess. It would also be difficult to match color. How big are the cracks? Can you see light?
Probably the best fix is refinish. When they lay down the polyurethane after sanding it will fill the cracks and give you a nice, smooth crack free finish. The poly remains flexible enough not crack under normal wear and tear.

  2. Totally thrown off by the title. I figured I was finally going to get to post that recipe for crack that someone gave me.

  3. To add to what Mike said- If the gap is large (see light through it) you can use thin rope to seal the gap and then finish with poly.

  4. Hmmm. We are painting the floor so will not be refinishing it. Does that make a difference? If the gap is large enough to see light, wont't the string fall through?

  5. I have a crack question too....Whats the best way to cover a big crack. So large you have to order two seats in a plane for one person?
