In the posting about B'Gosh the following comment was made:
"Don't try painting your building yourself. It's illegal, it must be done by a licensed contractor with permits pulled.materials/ permits, W/comp/ insurance/laborgets expensive real quick."
Is this true? If so why?
Is this something both business organizations (B'Gosh and SHBA) and the 3 neighborhood associations could lobby for a change with City Council?
you do not need a permit if you are only painting. -keith
ReplyDeleteBefore I had my building painted I checked with the Architectural Review Committee (ARC), since my business is within the historic district, and with city construction sevices (permitting) to see if I needed to get a permit and/or permission to do the mural and was told 'no', not if I essentially painted it myself. From ARC, they had no problem as long as the painting/mural was not signage.
ReplyDeleteSo I agree with Keith, no permit is needed.

Check with Olsens on Florida. I think this issue affected that business a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently on the phone with a code inspector. If you're only painting you do not need a permit. BUT, if you're doing structural repairs along the way, you do.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shrekswife, I'm VERY HAPPY to be here! The residents of Sem. Hts. have been very supportive of the shop. I also love living here....and I've lived all over this town...this is the best place!!
