Yes, the anarchists, let everyone mind their own business. Who cares about the following.
Four dirty, naked children found in filthy mobile home
By BEN MONTGOMERYPublished May 13, 2006
"Over at Lot 17, the shouting went on and on.
"For hours," said Kelli Miller, who lives one moble home over at the
Larrett Mobile Home Park on Black Dairy Road. "You could hear them yelling and
screaming all the time."
The family tied the mutts to the trampoline and, according to neighbors,
left the babies in a muddy pen made of chicken wire, sometimes from 7 a.m. to 11
p.m." . . . .
"Miller, the neighbor, said Chavez cleaned the mobile home until it was
"spotless" before social workers arrived for a visit in order to get her
children back. But days after the children returned, it was back to
normal.
"We have a joke," she said. "We say the flies are trying to get out,
not in. It is disgusting."
Miller wasn't the only neighbor to suspect something was wrong. Tammi
McDougal said her nephew often sneaked snacks to the 5-year-old. But she was
surprised when deputies hauled her four neighbors away."
. . . ."Neighbors said they didn't call to report neglect.
"A lot of people don't get involved because they fear their neighbors
getting mad at them," said Ritter, the DCF spokesman."
There is a difference between ‘Spirit' of the law and the ‘Letter‘of the law.
ReplyDeleteI and others feel the code NAZIS have moved way past the spirit.
The next SESHCA meeting is going to have Dawns replacement. You can be sure I'll be there.
Being activist is supposed to be a requirement for living here, I feel it's bout' time I started doing my part..
Unfortunately, while we would like to think that common sense really is common(which it never seems to be) the "spirit" of the law is open to interpretation which is the realm of those enforcing the rules unless disputed in court, then the "spirit" can be further defined by the judiciary which by ruling and precdent clarifies the letter of the law to better reflect the spirit of the law. What you think the law intends in many cases is quite different than what your neighbors think it intends.
ReplyDeleteThe next SESCHA meeting is this coming Tuesday. If you have never been,,,,,,,or have been and just sat there,,,,,,,,come and participate!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly ask you to remember one thing. This new code officer will not have answers or be responsible for the actions of her predecessor. This is an opportunity to meet our new code person and form a relationship that works!
Thank God for code enforcement. It keeps all of the people that have no clue as for what respect for your nieghbors is in line. Yes, we do not have a choice of being a pig in our nieghborhood. Move to the sticks where no one has to look at your dump. This is the city, a neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteAs for those children...people treat dogs more humanely! How disgusting!
I am thinking neither Bungalow Lady or Shrek's wife would ever have lived next to this house without calling Child Services and TPD. Some people give a darn, and others can't get involved.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine watching your neighbors treat their kids that way and not reporting it. What is the matter with people? Any child abuse situation can be reported anonymously. If everyone can see and/or hear the problem, then everyone should report it. It used to be that neighbors reported neighbors and particularly their kids if there was a real problem. It kept the kids from doing horrible things (a hundred eyes watching) and helped the children learn what was acceptable and what wasn't. I guess no one cares anymore, huh? Yes, Anonymous, I would have reported it.
ReplyDeleteI must sasy, though, that the old lady in my neighborhood who is terminally ill and has not had her lawn mowed in months will not be reported by me. She has no relatives in the area that anyone knows of and is not expected to live long. She has minimal money and certainly does not need the hassle of code. When she dies the estate can clean it up.
The other family that in the 'hood where husband and wife have both lost their jobs, have 5 kids (one of whom is home after a motorcycle accident), are buried in medical bills, etc., will be sent to the diversion program to get their home fixed at no cost or hassle to them.
It's the "anonymously" part that makes what you do so vile.
ReplyDelete"It used to be that neighbors reported neighbors and particularly their kids if there was a real problem."
NO! Neighbors would go to their neighbors and go to the kids parents PERSONALLY!
"the old lady in my neighborhood who is terminally ill and has not had her lawn mowed in months will not be reported by me." Boy ain't she lucky.
"The other family that in the 'hood where husband and wife have both lost their jobs, have 5 kids (one of whom is home after a motorcycle accident), are buried in medical bills, etc., will be sent to the diversion program to get their home fixed at no cost or hassle to them." The ‘Boot Camps'
were a diversion program also bet you wish you could divert ppl to them.
Is this info correct Bunglady: Susan Long, 921 E. Broad st. 936-0229.
I want to make sure I have the info correct on the flyer
Oh, please excuse my being anonymous in my posts, but hey! Isn't anonymity what it's all about?
There was a time, which seems to have long since past, where a neighbor would take a friendly suggestion to heart and attempt to be neighborly and address the situation. Nowadays you ask someone to turn down the stereo or suggest they might need to cut their lawn, and you get threatened with bodily harm. Funny how the people who choose to be violators are the same types who are threatening and antagonistic even when approached diplomatically. I see a huge difference between anonymously reporting someone violating a duly passed ordinance to a legitimate authority and someone publically publishing personal information "in the blind" with no regard to who sees it or how they use it(add it to a telemarketing list or worse). There may even be a potential liability issue, even if it might not be technically illegal. Not to mention, if you leave it at my door, you'd be both trespassing and littering. Your posts about this "flyer" are nothing more than an attempt to intimidate or harass, one would conclude you yourself is a violator.
ReplyDeleteSo anonymous with the flyer, what is your story? Why are you so angry over this issue. What happened to you?
ReplyDeleteA neighbor of mine went to her new neighbor to let her know that she was watering on the wrong day, so that neighbor would not get in troouble with the watering people. The next day her husband came out and berated her.
ReplyDeleteI told a neighbor of mine that the chain link fence he was putting in his front yard was a violation of the Overlay and that all the time and money he was putting in was going to be wasted. He got all pissy on me. I was doing him a favor letting him know and jumps on me. So next time I see a code issue, I won't warn him, let him get cited.
You cannot treat your house in the city as your personal fiefdom with no regards to others and the law. If you want to do that move to Idaho. They don't have zoning there.
Once upon a time neighbors would have come to assist the terminally ill woman with no family in the area or the family overwhelmed with medical bills. So much for being "Historic & Friendly".
ReplyDeleteI also understand the post by "Trying to be a good neighbor". Recently a nameless person gave a woman who was going to bulldoze her house and bring in a modeular home the overlay guidelines to show that the modular would not meet the overlay guidelines...she was blasted by the good church going woman (both women went to the same church). The one was only trying to help the other avoid a costly mistake and all they received was grief.
Kinda wants you to stay anonymous.
So you assume that neighbors have not assisted in these situations - would you? As others have posted - today many people don't want others help if they do not know them personally- we have become a nation that is wary and leary of a helping hand and ready to sue or fight if anyone goes out of their way to help without an alterier motive. I try to help in those little ways so that if need be in a time of trying need there is a comfort level for my neigbor and hopefully friend to ask if they need. Do unto others........
ReplyDeleteIf you don't believe in "historic and friendly" then don't slam it - change your attitude - your sarcasm is what is wrong with this world today - do something for someone else and don't expect anything in return - it can become a good habit.
Aren't you the one to jump to conclusions. One neighborhood group says it is "Historic & Friendly" It has a wad of cash but wants no "social service" organizations in its boundaries.
ReplyDeleteI for one do help others. I don't point it out and shout it from the roof top. The sarcasm was perfect for the hypocrisy. Do unto others...that is exactly the point as Jesus said to the hypocrites of his day..."you tithe mint, and dill and cummin and have neglected the weightier provision of the law: justice, and mercy and faithfulness"....
To anonymouse who posted my name and phone no. I am the chair of the OLD Seminole Heights Code Enforcement Committee. I report no one in SESH as you have your own code enforcement committee. Yes, I turn in code complaints. Usually they are turned into me by people who are afraid of the retaliation their neighbors will take against them. Friendly? That doesn't sound friendly to me. Threatening doesn't sound friendly to me either.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thank you for your time and focus on making the neighborhood a better place to live. If scarastic anon feels the need to come after you then I will feel the need to go after him.
ReplyDeleteObviously, there is a need for the association to have a codes co-ordinator or you wouldn't be spending the time co-ordinating all of the complaints that come in consistantly from the whole neighborhood and not just from one person "on a mission".
You go girl!!
Thank you.

ReplyDeleteI don't even have to read your posts to know that we are of the same mind! Thanks for your input to this blog and give your parents a hug for us!
