4. Choose an Identity. Use an existing Blogger identity, create one for the moment or go anonymous.
"Blogger username: Your display name will appear, along with a link to your profile and your photo (if you have one).

Other: You can enter your name and a link to your website, without having to have a Blogger account.

"What this does is to prevent automated systems from adding comments to your blog, since it takes a human being to read the word and pass this step. If you've ever received a comment that looked like an advertisement or a random link to an unrelated site, then you've encountered comment spam. A lot of this is done automatically by software which can't pass the word verification, so enabling this option is a good way to prevent many such unwanted comments."

  1. One caveat I've noticed: Commenting is much more difficult (read: impossible) using a Mozilla-based web browser; I've had to resort to using IE6 in order to post comments on this blog. (Curiously, Moz works just fine in Angelsil's "Party Like It's 1925" blog, though that's back-ended by Blogger, not Blogspot).

It doesn't generate any errors, it's just that no comments appear after typing in the random alphanumeric validation info and hitting the publish button. I don't know if that's a Blogger thing, or something you, personally have any control over the configuration of.

Thought I should put that out there in case other visitors have been encountering difficulty contributing to the conversations here.
