I understand the former lithograph or (something graph) building at Florida and North Street (the northern end of the block from Blosfield's Clock shop) is going to have new tenants. I've noticed a new paint job. I've heard a rumor as what might go in there, but wonder if anyone has a confirmation.
Well, I just got back from snooping around and here's what I learned....
ReplyDeleteThe building is owned by Metropolitan Ministries and it is to be a patient care facility. This is what a couple of guys who are working on the building told me.
I have to say I am very disappointed. This is such a great space with the potential for a retail business or offices. It has good parking in the rear and high profile on Florida Ave.
Why would patient services need such a busy location??
On a happier note, I have knowledge of a person interested in moving an antique store to S.H. but needs to find space to buy....so if anyone has a tip on anything, let me know!!
I've noticed a listing at 6405 Florida Ave. that might work for the antique store. It's a storefront (that needs some work) and a home in the rear. Not sure what the parking is like. MLS#T2049176.
ReplyDeleteA PFLAG member on a listserv I'm on said that 6421 Florida Ave. is going to be a GLBT community center. It's grand opening is rumored to be January 20th from 6-9 pm.
ReplyDeleteSherry, maybe it wasn't Metropolitan Ministries, but perhaps Metropolitan Charities that they mentioned!
From a little digging online, it looks like it's being called the Tampa Metro Diversity Center.

There's no better place for this than Seminole Heights.
That's much better!! I so hope I did mis-understand. Thanks M!
ReplyDeleteThis is great as this will bring people from all over Tampa and Hillsborough County to Seminole Heights.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if their space will be big enough for the Business Guild to meet there?
Metropolitan Charities used to have a small presence in Seminole Heights a few years ago. They had some programs in the little building that the Taco Bus now has as a store.
From their website:
"Enhancing the quality of life - build community "
"A Community Center for All!
A program of Metropolitan Charities, the Metro Diversity Centers proudly provide activities and events for all! Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Straight, all ages, races and gender identities are welcome to participate in any and all events and activities."
"Metropolitan Charities is committed to providing services and activities to the older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. The Metro Center provides LGBT seniors with opportunities for peer, community interaction and social and recreational activities."
"Metropolitan Charities, Inc. is a community-based social service agency that has a strong 20-year history of providing quality services in Florida. Metropolitan Charities formed as an outreach of King of Peace MCC in Pinellas County and has been serving the HIV/AIDS community since 1984"
