There are many places in Seminole Heights that are off the beaten track that even residents of Seminole Heights might not be aware of. I will periodically feature them.
The first place is tucked away in the west side of Old Seminole Heights at the end of Jean Street, appropriately called Jean Street Shipyard. (From Hillsborough Avenue, north on Florida, west on Jean Street Streets.) It is reported to be the oldest marina in Tampa dating back to 1843. It is also a fully functioning shipyard. When you look at the photo on their website of the sign, note the Evinrude motor that acts as their mailbox. All sorts of shipyard items are used as decorations at their entrance and inside the facility.
According to the online search at St. Petersburg Times they have not done a story on this place. (since 1987) The Trib's archive site was not working. Aside from commerical listings the only place that mentions them is a website by a neighbor http://www.ginafromtampa.com/jeanst.htm
